Your mountain team meets you for the transfer to Marangu Gate where registration and entry formalities are completed before the walk begins. The trail climbs through cultivated land and then enters the attractive Kilimanjaro rainforest with opportunities to observe forest plants and birdlife along the way. Your guide sets a steady pace suited to the group and provides advice on hydration and walking technique. After approximately a half day on the trail you arrive at Mandara Hut for dinner, a briefing about the next stage and your first night on the mountain.

After breakfast continue from Mandara through the upper rainforest toward the open moorland zone. Vegetation gradually changes as the trail rises, revealing wider views and distinctive highland plants and offering early perspectives of the volcanic terrain surrounding Kibo and Mawenzi depending on cloud and weather conditions. Your guide maintains a measured rhythm with regular pauses so the group can adjust to the increasing elevation. Reach Horombo Hut in the afternoon, settle into mountain accommodation and enjoy dinner before resting for the next day.

Today's walk crosses the high moorland and alpine desert toward Kibo Hut, the final overnight point before the summit attempt. The trail passes through the broad saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, creating an increasingly stark and open landscape with fewer plants and more volcanic rock. Walking slowly is important as the altitude increases, so your guide monitors the group and sets frequent pauses. On arrival at Kibo Hut have an early meal, organize summit clothing and equipment, and receive a practical briefing before an early night and a pre dawn start.

The summit attempt begins before dawn following a demanding ascent over scree toward Gilmans Point on the crater rim and onward toward Uhuru Peak when conditions and the group's wellbeing allow. Your guide manages the pace, rest periods and safety decisions throughout this high altitude section. At the summit area take time for photographs and to view the surrounding volcanic scenery if weather permits. Descend carefully to Kibo Hut for a short rest and meal, then continue down to Horombo Hut for the night. Summit success is not guaranteed and depends on individual condition and mountain conditions.

After breakfast begin the descent through the moorland and rainforest zones retracing the lower section of the Marangu Route. Descending usually feels easier than climbing but the trail can still be tiring after the summit attempt so your guide keeps the pace controlled and allows appropriate breaks. At Marangu Gate complete the exit procedures and meet the waiting transfer for onward travel. This package concludes at the gate, making it practical to continue to Arusha or another planned destination with separate arrangements.
