Marangu or the “Coca-Cola route” is the all time popular route on Kilimanjaro climbing. It is the only route where overnight stays are in huts.
This makes Marangu a good option for the hiker who are interested for one more overnight to acclimatize,so this time we are moving slowly to the base camp and also to have more time to adapt to the weather, stay one more night at the base camp or an extra night for the slower descender.
This route features a well-trodden trail running through all the climate zones – from tropical rainforest to eternal ice, and will also treat you to scenic African landscapes. 5 days option is strongly recommended for those who do not need so much time to climb or for acclimatization.

Begin your climb at Marangu Gate after registration. Trek through the lush rainforest, home to colobus monkeys and unique bird species. Arrive at Mandara Hut for dinner and overnight.

Leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone with stunning views of Mawenzi Peak.
Continue to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.

Spend an extra day at Horombo Hut to acclimatize. Take a short hike towards Mawenzi and return to the hut to improve your chances of summit success.

Trek through alpine desert terrain between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Arrive at Kibo Hut, rest, and prepare for your midnight summit attempt.

Distance: 22 km | Time: 10–14 hours
Begin your summit attempt at midnight. Reach Gilman’s Point and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, descend to Horombo Hut for overnight.

Descend through moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate.
