In the remote north-western corner of India, Ladakh is a truly inspirational destination for a trekking holiday. Following a beautiful high valley, this superb trek leads through a spectacular mountain world, colored by green irrigated fields and the red of the monks’ robes at the villages and monasteries en route.
After acclimatizing and sightseeing at the monasteries around the ancient regional capital of Leh, our classic Ladakh trek starts from picturesque Chilling Village, renowned for its black smiths and craftsmen. We cross the Zanskar River by rope trolley and walk along the river to reach the substantial village of Markha, where the way of life has remained virtually unchanged for centuries. We then follow the trail passing through lush vegetation and traditional villages experiencing the ancient Ladakhi culture. Head of the Markha Valley is dominated by the glaciated Kang Yatze peak (6400m) rising above the idyllic Nimaling plains. Gradually gaining height on a riverside trail, our highest camp is at 4850 meters on the Nimaling Plain, in the realm of the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan marmots and griffon and lammergeyer vultures. Returning to the Indus Valley via the Kongmaru La (5135m) - the highest point of our trek, we have excellent views of nearby Kang Yatze (6400m), distant Nun-Kun peaks and northwards the peaks of the Tibetan border.
Delhi
Arrive in Delhi. Arrive at the international airport of Delhi at night and receive assistance from a representative from the local office to board the early morning flight to Leh. Overnight No Hotel

Delhi – Leh (3500m). Enjoy the scenery while flying from Delhi to Leh. In the afternoon there will be a gentle orientation walk of Leh and its bazaars. Overnight Hotel

Skiu
Leh – Chilling – Skiu (3350m;3-4 hrs). This morning, transfer to Chilling, a small village renowned for its black smiths and craftsmen who work with metals like copper, tin and silver to make ladles, Chhang pots and tea pots etc. This is the starting point of the trek. Cross Zanskar river by rope trolley and trek to Skiu. Overnight Camp
Markha
Skiu – Markha (3750m;7-5 hrs). Trek along the valley from Skiu to Markha appreciating the natural scenery around. Follow the river all day to the camp. Overnight Camp

Markha – Hankar – Thachungtse (4300m;6-7hrs). Trek from Markha to Thachungtse, visiting Umlung Gompa en route. Continuing up the valley walk through Umlung Village and Hankar to Thachungtse. Overnight Camp

Nimaling
Thachungtse – Nimaling (4850 m;5-6 hrs). It is a short walk to Nimaling. Views of Kang Yangtse, at 6,400m are extraordinary. Evening optional walk is highly recommended for the impressive close up views of Kang Yangste. Overnight Camp

Nimaling: Rest or Exploration. Today is the day for rest and further acclimatization. Optional walk towards Kang Yatze, to a high point (5500 m) is highly recommended for this purpose. Overnight Camp

Nimaling – Kongmaru La (5135m) – Shang Sumdo (3810 m ;6-7 hrs) Start the day with an initial climb to Kongmaru La at 5,286m. From there continue descent to Shang Sumdo through a long gorge along the stream. Overnight Camp
