Nehru Trophy Boat Race, the annual water carnival at Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha is considered as the "Biggest Snake Boat Race" in the world. The colourful boat pageantry, which precedes the boat race, is a marvelous treat to the onlookers. The Snake Boats with 100 to 200 oarsmen plough the waters to the tune the legendry songs. Nehru Trophy Boat Race is the most famous of the boat races of Kerala.

The event is named after the late Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, who visited Alappuzha city in the year 1952. Enthralled by the charm and gaiety of the water carnival he instituted the Nehru Trophy. The trophy is areplica of a snake-boat in silver, placed on wooden abacus on which the following words of Panditji are inscribed above his signature. The festival supports the sense of unity and fraternity among the people and is a popular attraction for the tourists from all over the world.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1

1st [10th August 2006]

Arrival at Cochin International Air Port. Our representatives transfer you to your hotel. In the evening visit Fort Kochi Beach , Chinese Fishing Net, Synagogue and Mattancherry palace. Over night stay at your hotel.
Day 2

2nd [11th August 2006]

After break fast drive to Alleppey and check in your House Boat (12 noon on arrival reception and Welcome Drink). Tour starts from Alleppey Punnamada Jetty. Travel through the beautiful Back Waters. A glide on Vembanadu Lake. Enjoy the vastness of the Biggest Lake in South India.

01.00 P.M - Lunch break near R.BLOCK KAYAL Taste the Kerala Cuisine in a traditional way. Tour resumes after a bit of siesta in the lap of Mother Nature. Come to Champakulam. On the way, enjoy the Kuttanadan Village Life. In the evening walking through KALLOORKADU MARKET (oldest market in the Back Water Area). Proceeds to OTHARA for your night halt. Enjoy your night in the tranquility of the nature.
07.30 P.M - Open your dinner

Day 3

3rd [12th August 2006]

After break fast proceeds your journey to Alleppey through River Pampa. A short break at Karumady for swimming in the Fresh Water River . 12.00 noon - Lunch break, tour continue. 12.45 P.M - Arrival at Pallathuruthy. You are transferred by car to Punnamada Lake to witness the prestigious, pride and in comparable world famous colorful water Regatta.

Nehru Cup Snake Bost Race :: 01.30 P.M - Arrival at venue of Boat Race 02.30 P.M - See the Mass Drill of Snake Boats. Race begins. Enjoy the spectacular competition heats by heats. Intermission you can see the cultural programme. 04.30 P.M - Final competition to decide the winner of “NEHRU CUP 2006” Again you are transferred to House Boat for your second night on board. Have a nice dinner on board.

4th [13th August 2006]

After break fast 10.00 A.M check out from the House Boat and drive back to Cochin International Air Port for departure.
