A full day dedicated to the Timket festival, where you witness this colorful ceremony. Before sunrise, a priest blesses the water of the pool, symbolizing Christ's baptism in the Jordan. The faithful immerse themselves or are sprinkled with this holy water as a renewal of their baptismal vows. This is followed by the main procession: priests, deacons, and crowds dressed in the traditional white habesha kemis parade through town with ceremonial crosses and colorful umbrellas, accompanied by liturgical chants, drums, and dances that fill the streets all morning. Afterward you explore the southern cluster: Bete Amanuel, accessed through a tunnel, known for its trench and the "symbolic tomb of Adam" carved beside it; Bete Merkorios, once used as a prison and believed to have served as a royal chapel; and Bete Gabriel-Rufael. Then, in the afternoon, each tabot is carried in procession back to its home church. A final evening in Lalibela, often livened by traditional live music, closes out the festival.
