The Poon Hill trek is a 5-day adventure from Pokhara that offers this unforgettable moment, making it one of Nepal’s most accessible Himalayan adventures.
Pokhara to Birethanti/Nayapul by a transport and trek to Ulleri
Start in Kathmandu, continue to Pokhara, then take a 1.5-hour drive to Nayapul to begin a 5-day trek along the Modi River through rice terraces and traditional villages. The route’s highlight (and challenge) is the 3,200 stone steps up to Ulleri, paced with tea-house stops and friendly chats with fellow trekkers, perfect for friends or groups.

Trek to Ghorepani (2,874m)
The journey to Ghorepani winds through dense rhododendron and oak forests. In spring (March - April), the hillsides burst with red and pink rhododendron blooms - Nepal’s national flower. The path ascends through Banthanti and Nangethanti to reach Ghorepani, the base for tomorrow morning’s hike to Poon Hill. Rest well tonight.
Pro tip: Arrange your hike to Poon Hill viewpoint with your teahouse owner for an early wake-up call and packed breakfast.

Hike to Poon Hill for Sunrise & Trek to Tadapani (2,630m)
We start the day early at 4:30 AM to catch the most magical moment of the trek - watching the Annapurna range light up with a golden sunrise. The peaceful climb in the dark leads to stunning views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre.
After enjoying the view, we return to Ghorepani for breakfast, then continue through serene forest trails toward Tadapani, with scenic glimpses of Annapurna South along the way.

Trek to Ghandruk (1,940m)
Today, the journey offers a more relaxed pace as we trek to Ghandruk through vibrant rhododendron forests. Along the way, the trail gently winds toward Ghandruk, a stunning Gurung village where culture seamlessly meets nature - making it a highlight of the trek.
Beautifully nestled in a natural amphitheatre overlooking the Modi River valley, Ghandruk charms visitors with its traditional stone houses and distinctive slate roofs.

Trek to Syauli Bazaar and Return from the Trek to Pokhara
The final day of the 5-day Ghorepani Poon Hill trek follows stone paths through terraced fields and traditional villages like Kimche and Syauli Bazaar, where transport awaits to return to Pokhara. The drive along the Modi River valley offers final views of the mountains. Most trekkers reach Pokhara by mid-afternoon, perfect for a celebratory meal by Phewa Lake.
