Shali Peak Trek Tour

(3.00hrs. of drive each way and 6hrs. of trek to the Shali Peak and back both sides)

Shali peak also known as ShaliTibba, 2,870 metres (9,416 feet) is the highest peak in the vicinity of Shimla. It is a magnificent isolated pinnacle with a temple dedicated to Hindu goddess Kali on the top. Shali peak is visible to the North, from the Ridge- Shimla. If one looks at the snow covered Great Himalayan ranges behind the Longwood from Ridge, a precipice towering high is easily spotted in the foreground. The face of the precipice is bare and there are a few trees on the side slopes. A small white structure (Kali temple) can also be seen on the top of the mountain. The hike up to the peak is worth the effort.

The ascent up to Shali peak is through an ancient trail through dense pine and oak forests with rolling alpine pastures. Beside various species of flora and fauna these forest supports a lot of wild life like Leopards, Black Beers and Barking Deer (Goral), as well as some beautiful birds and pheasants from the Himalayan region and it is safe to take this day hike from Shimla. It is a steep but pleasant walk of about 3 hrs. (7 kms – one way), from Khatnol village, which is almost the last village in the foothills of the Shali peak. The peak commands an unforgettable view of endless snow covered Great Himalayan ranges along with the Sutlej valley and the densely forested hills of Shimla, Fagu and Narkanda.
