Arusha is a fun city to explore, a fascinating urban complement to the thrills on offer elsewhere in northern Tanzania's safari parks. Here you'll get to experience lively streets, tasty local food, and busy markets and museums. More than anything else, it's a window into life in a provincial Tanzanian city.

In the busy provincial town of Karatu, with its constant stream of passing tourist traffic, the many places to stay mean you can rest from life on the road here. It’s big enough to have banks, shops (for both supplies and souvenirs) and a few roadside restaurants where locals eat.

Ngorongoro Crater
The day that awaits you in Ngorongoro Crater will be filled with wildlife and the sheer wonder of exploring an unusual world as picturesque as any safari park in Africa

Early Morning
Early this morning it's time for you to enjoy an amazing safari experience as you go on a guided game drive through Ngorongoro Crater. Watch for animals that might include black rhinos, spotted hyenas and lions as your guide shows you around the crater floor.

Around halfway between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro, close to the busy town of Karatu but down a quiet side street, Marera Valley Lodge is an excellent place to stay. It has its own expansive grounds with big views out over the surrounding greenery. The handsome main building shelters a bar, restaurant and lounge, there's a swimming pool, and the spacious rooms are immaculate refuges you'll be happy to retreat to at the end of a long day.

There's nowhere in Tanzania where you have a better chance of seeing big cats than in the Central Serengeti. You'll also see lots of other animals as you explore the savannah grasslands and silhouetted acacia trees with us. This is the Serengeti's heartland and it is the most popular area of the park, but with very good reason.

This morning your guide will take you on a guided game drive through the Central Serengeti. You might see big cats, elephants, hyenas, zebras, wildebeest and giraffes.

You won’t find many better national parks in Africa than the Serengeti, which has few rivals when it comes to both the numbers and variety of animals. Track down the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra. Enjoy the vast horizons that are perfect for spotting predators (especially lions, leopards, cheetahs and spotted hyenas) and their prey (buffaloes, impalas and kongoni), as well as elephants and giraffes. If you’re really lucky you’ll see a hunt, one of the most exhilarating sights anywhere in the wild. And at every turn, revel in its beauty, with flat-topped acacia trees silhouetted against the setting sun, and so many other classic African safari images.
