Arusha is an important part of your northern Tanzanian safari and not just because of its position as a gateway to the safari parks of the country's north. With its dynamic street life and markets, fascinating museums and enticing street food, it's an exciting city that deserves exploring.

You never forget the first time you see Ngorongoro Crater from above. Looking out from the rim of this extraordinary volcanic crater is like gazing down upon a lost world of wildlife and astonishing beauty. The drive down into the crater will be just as special, taking you down onto the crater floor where nature rules and no human being may pass the night. You'll spend the best part of a day exploring this remarkable place, seeing its lions, hyenas, black rhinos, elephants, flamingos and so much more. And when it comes time to leave, you'll keep looking back over your shoulder trying to hold these experiences in your memory.

Early Morning
Early this morning you'll join us on a guided game drive through Ngorongoro Crater. Apart from looking for the amazing wildlife (lions, black rhinos, spotted hyenas and more), your guide will show you the many beautiful corners of the crater floor.

Accommodation Marera Valley Lodge Lodge

The rooms at Marera Valley Lodge are like understated temples to good taste and you'll sleep well here. Although you're close to Karatu, you're nicely removed from the main road that connects Ngorongoro Crater with Lake Manyara National Park. The well-kept lawns and swimming pool, not to mention the fine restaurant and sweeping views of the Crater Highlands, all add to the appeal of staying here.

It's time for you to get to know the Central Serengeti, one of the most wildlife-rich places in all of East Africa. All three big cats are commonly seen, as are many other animals, and the savannah grasslands interspersed with signature acacia trees is classic safari terrain. It can get busy, but it's a vast area where you can easily find some solitude.

Unesco World Heritage–listed Serengeti National Park will almost certainly be one of the highlights of your safari, and it's the kind of place that very quickly becomes a favorite. That's partly because of the wildlife: this is one of the best places anywhere to see lions, leopards and cheetahs. Although every big cat sighting is special, they're only a part of the story here: there's a good chance you'll also see elephants, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, buffaloes and spotted hyenas and much more. Many travelers' love affair with the Serengeti is also because of its landscapes: expect vast savannah grasslands, acacia trees and pretty hill country.
