Reaching a staggering height of 260 meters, the imposing Tehri Dam is one of the tallest dams in the world and the tallest dam in India. An engineering marvel in itself, Tehri Dam not only provides more than 1,000 MW of hydroelectricity but also is a popular tourist attraction in Uttarakhand.The dam reservoir, also known as Tehri Lake, is usually flocked with tourists interested in boating and is slowly becoming a prominent hub for adventure tourism in Uttarakhand.

Tehri Lake :

Uttarakhand is not only the Land of Gods but also the Land of Rivers and mountains. Tehri was a small town situated on the confluence of Bhagirathi and Bhilangna Rivers in Uttarakhand. This town got submerged in the water to create a large catchment area and this way the town of Old Tehri became The Tehri Lake, Asia’s largest man made lake. The town of Tehri was evacuated to make space for the Tehri dam, and the population has been shifted to the town of New Tehri.
At the time when Tehri Dam was made State Government (Uttarakhand) has decided to to convert the famous Tehri Lake into an Adventure Tourism. Tehri Lake includes many different and varied activities from Jet Skiing to Hot air ballon rides.

In the name of Adventure sports the people of our country had limited options and traveled to other places to quench their thirst of adventure, but now it is all going to change. With the rise of adventure sports in India, the Government of Uttarakhand is planning to change the famous Tehri Lake into a major Adventure tourism destination.

By Air
One of the most convenient ways to reach Tehri is by air. Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport from Tehri and is located around 83 km from the lake. You can hire a taxi or cab to reach the location from the airport.
By Train
Rishikesh is the nearest railway station to Tehri, which is nearly 73 km away. From Rishikesh, you can board buses that frequently ply to the spot. You can also hop on a cab to reach the destination.
By Road
Tehri is well-connected through motorable roads to all major cities such as Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Srinagar, and New Delhi.
