In 1931, the city of Napier was struck by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that lasted 2.5 minutes, leveling most of the city. A reconstruction quickly started and the art deco style emerged as the main theme, making Napier one of the most architecturally unique spots in New Zealand. To this day, thousands of people flock to the city every February for an art deco weekend unlike any other. This architectural flair, combined with the beautiful shoreline and unrivaled libations, makes Napier an ideal locale for locals and travelers from around the world. If Napier is known for its architecture, then the wine and beer from nearby Hawkes Bay isn't too far behind. Your local guide will take you to a few of the famous and smaller boutique wineries that have made this spot well known in the exclusive world of sommeliers. We aren't sure how many bottles of wine your arms can carry, but odds are that you're going to wish you had another limb. The area is known for its reds, so get your taste buds revved up and ready
