Lake Duluti Nature Walk and Canoeing Experience
Your day begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Arusha, typically scheduled between 0800 and 0830 hours. From Arusha city, you will travel approximately 12 to 15 kilometres, with a driving time of about 30 to 40 minutes, heading east toward the Tengeru area where Lake Duluti is located. The drive passes through green residential suburbs, farmland, and small local settlements, with beautiful views of Mount Meru visible on clear days.
Upon arrival at Lake Duluti, situated at an elevation of approximately 1,290 meters above sea level, you will meet your professional local guide and receive a briefing about the day’s activities. The lake is surrounded by a thick forest canopy that creates a cool and refreshing atmosphere throughout the day. The tour begins with a guided nature walk along forest trails that follow sections of the crater rim and lakeshore. This walk offers excellent opportunities for bird watching, nature photography, and peaceful exploration.
During the walk, you may spot kingfishers, fish eagles, herons, cormorants, and a variety of forest bird species, as well as butterflies and small wildlife. Your guide will explain the volcanic formation of Lake Duluti, the unique plant species found in the forest, and the cultural significance of the lake to surrounding communities. The walking trails are gentle and suitable for all fitness levels, allowing you to enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace while listening to the natural sounds of the forest.
After the nature walk, you will enjoy one of the highlights of the tour, a canoeing experience on Lake Duluti. Paddling across the calm waters allows you to explore the lake from a unique perspective, drifting quietly along the forested shoreline while observing birds, aquatic life, and reflections of the trees on the water’s surface. Canoeing on Lake Duluti is safe, peaceful, and ideal for photography, relaxation, and nature appreciation.
A picnic lunch will be served at a designated lakeside area, where you can relax in the shade of the forest and enjoy views of the water. After lunch, you will have free time to continue exploring the area, take more photographs, or simply sit by the lake and enjoy the calm surroundings.
