The Lemosho Route is widely considered to be the best route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Lemosho, a relatively new route, is preferred by reputable operators due to its beauty, remoteness and success rate. In short, it maximizes the chances that a climber will reach the summit, and enjoy the experience overall. It is a longer route, allowing climbers to acclimatize more readily to the altitude. Lemosho is also one of the more scenic routes up Kilimanjaro and does NOT require a midnight summit ascent. A day time summit is much preferred, as climbers avoid the crowds at the summit.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Moshi

Arrive at your preferred time.

Day 2 Londorossi Gate To Mti Mkubwa Camp

Begin the Lemosho trail of Mt Kilimanjaro to the Mti Mkubwa Campsite

Day 3 Mti Mkubwa Camp To Shira 1 Camp

Climb into the moorland, over the Shira ridge and down to the plateau Shira 1 Camp.

Day 4 Shira 1 Camp To Shira 2 Camp

Shira Plateau

Travel across the Shira Plateau, with time for short acclimatization walks.

Day 5 Shira 2 Camp To Barranco Camp

Climb through rocky scree to the Lava Tower. Descend into the Great Barranco Valley to acclimatize and camp.

Day 6 Barranco Camp To Karanga Camp

Tackle the Great Barranco Wall up into the alpine desert of Karanga Valley.

Day 7 Karanga Camp To Barafu Camp

Trek through the alpine desert up to Barafu Camp. Prepare for the midnight start of the summit attempt.

Day 8 Barafu Camp To Summit To Mweka Camp

Uhuru Peak

Begin the summit trek at midnight. Conquer the rim of the main crater, then cross the scree and snow to Uhuru Peak. Descend to Mweka Hut.

Day 9 Descent - Mweka Camp To Mweka Gate To Moshi

Descend the slopes to Mweka Gate and receive a summit certificate. Continue to Mweka village, then Moshi.
