Option to fly back to Chiang Mai
If you prefer not to return to Chiang Mai overland, there is the option to fly from Mae Hong Son to Chiang Mai (price is not included). You will need sufficient advance notice to book this flight with Nok Air, Bangkok Airways or Kan Airlines. If you choose to take the 10am flight you should book an extra night in Mae Hong Son. Alternatively, we can shorten the tour on the last day with an early market visit and drop you off at the airport at 9am.Meals not mentioned

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Drive the scenic mountain road to Pai

  Meeting and pick up at your Chiang Mai accommodation around 8:30am. Drive the scenic mountain road to Pai valley and reach the town in time for lunch at local restaurant. Spend the afternoon at your own leisure, exploring the area independently; there is the option to cycle around by mountain bike. Spend the night in a comfortable resort, dinner provided.

• Day 2 : Trek to Lahu Village

  After breakfast, we depart by vehicle to reach the Soppong area where we begin our hike to reach a small Lahu village. We stop at the village for lunch before continuing to hike 4 hours through the jungle. We eventually reach a small Karen village where we will stay overnight; your guide and hosts will cook you a delicious local dinner while you relax surrounded by the sounds of the peaceful village and jungle. Total trekking time for today is approximately 6 hours with lush jungle, bamboo forest and limestone rock formations.

• Day 3 : Trek down the valley and explore Tham Lod limestone caves

  Trek down the valley after breakfast then cross the Lang river before eventually reaching the small village of Ban Tham. Lunch at local restaurant followed by an afternoon exploring the mind-blowing Tham Lod caves; this unique cave system is said to be one of South-East Asia’s largest. Drive down to Soppong village dinner at local bungalow and overnight in a basic guesthouse in Soppong.

• Day 4 : Jungle trekking and vehicle transfer to Mae Hong Son

  Drive up the mountain to begin a 3 hour hike through dense bamboo forest to reach a tiny Lisu village. You will have a lunch break at the village before trekking down the valley to meet our vehicle. Drive along the scenic winding road to Mae Hong Son, making a stop at the “fish cave” (Tham Pla) on our way. Tham Pla is an interesting Buddhist sanctuary under a limestone cliff. Check in to your hotel after which you can relax and enjoy dinner at your own leisure; there are a variety of good restaurants by a small lake.

• Day 5 : Explore the quaint town of Mae Hong Son before returning to Chiang Mai

  Start the morning exploring this charming little town starting with an early visit to a local market with your guide. Then we drive to the Wat Prathat Doi Khong Mou Temple, located on the hill overlooking the town with a great view point. Walk back to the city where you can take a stroll to the Wat Jongkham, near the charming little lake. Before noon, we will begin the long overland trip back to Chiang Mai with pitstops at Soppong and Pai; arrival time in Chiang Mai approximately 19:00
