Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by a professional representative from Way 2 Africa Expeditions and transferred approximately 50 kilometers, taking about one hour, to your comfortable lodge in Arusha. Arusha sits at the foothills of Mount Meru and serves as the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro, providing an ideal environment for rest and preparation before the climb. During the evening, you will receive a comprehensive trekking briefing, gear inspection, and safety overview from your lead mountain guide, ensuring you are fully prepared for the days ahead. The remainder of the evening is dedicated to relaxation, hydration, and mental preparation for your Kilimanjaro trekking adventure.

After an early breakfast, you will depart Arusha for a scenic 4 to 5 hour drive covering approximately 140 kilometers to Rongai Gate at 1,950 meters, located on the remote northern side of Mount Kilimanjaro. Following park registration and final preparations, your trek officially begins through lush montane forest rich in birdlife, unique vegetation, and occasional sightings of colobus monkeys. The trail is wide and gently ascending, making it ideal for gradual acclimatization. The trek to First Cave Camp at 2,600 meters covers approximately 6 kilometers and takes 3 to 4 hours, allowing ample time to adjust to altitude while enjoying expansive views across the Kenyan plains.

Today’s trek continues through thinning forest and emerging moorland as the vegetation becomes more rugged and alpine. The trail becomes narrower and more scenic, passing through open valleys and volcanic terrain. Upon reaching Kikelewa Camp at 3,600 meters, you will notice a significant change in landscape and climate, marking your transition into higher altitude zones. The trek ascends approximately 8 kilometers over 4 to 5 hours, leading you toward the dramatic spires of Mawenzi Peak, Kilimanjaro’s second highest summit. The trek from Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut at 4,700 meters crosses the vast saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks, often described as a lunar desert due to its barren and otherworldly terrain. Covering approximately 9 kilometers in 5 to 6 hours, this section is gradual but demanding due to altitude. Upon arrival at Kibo Hut, you will rest, enjoy an early dinner, and prepare mentally and physically for the summit attempt.

Reaching the summit at sunrise offers an emotional and breathtaking reward, with sweeping views across Tanzania and Kenya. After celebrating and capturing photos, you will descend approximately 12 kilometers to Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters, where oxygen levels improve and rest becomes easier.
