Assam Meghalaya Trip

On arrival meet the representative at the airport and drive straight to Kamakhya darshan. Visit Kamakhya Temple perched atop Nilachal Hill offering panoramic views of the city and the Brahmaputra River. Consider purchasing a VIP pass to potentially reduce waiting times. After darshan, visit Umananda Temple, Balaji Temple, Sankardev Kalashetra and Basistha Ashram. Overnight in Guwahati.

Take a morning trip to the tea gardens located about 20 minutes from Guwahati. The tea garden area spans large tracts of prime land including Amchong which is known for fine teas and has large production capacity. Have lunch by the factory side. After lunch return to the city and visit the local Fancy Bazar. Optional sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra is available at your own cost. Overnight in Guwahati.

Post breakfast, start the journey towards Shillong, known as the Scotland of the East. Enroute visit Umiam Lake and Don Bosco Museum. Arrive Shillong and check in at the hotel. Later go for local sightseeing including Lady Hydari Park, Wards Lake, the Golf Course, Cathedral, Elephant Falls, Shillong Peak and Sweet Falls. Overnight at Shillong.

Morning after breakfast, take a full day excursion to Cherrapunjee. Visit multiple local attractions and viewpoints including major waterfalls and caves such as Nohkalikai Falls and Mawsmai Caves and several other viewpoints and memorials. Overnight at Cherrapunjee.

Early morning proceed to Mawlynong, known as the cleanest village in Asia. Visit the Living Root Bridge and treehouses and then proceed to Dawki at the Bangladesh border. Overnight stay in the area.

After breakfast either proceed to Kransuri waterfalls or Phephe waterfalls and return to Shillong, or proceed to Laitlum canyon and visit Mawplang sacred forest. Overnight at Shillong.

After breakfast proceed to Kaziranga National Park, approximately a 7 hour drive. Upon arrival check in to your accommodation such as a resort or hotel near the park. In the evening, on request, enjoy a folk dance. Overnight near Kaziranga.

Wake up early for an elephant safari around 5:30AM or 6:30AM in the Central or Western Range to get a close up perspective of wildlife, particularly the one horned rhinoceros. Visit the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park to explore orchids and learn about local flora and Assamese culture. In the afternoon embark on a jeep safari in one of the ranges (Western Range known for rhinos, Central Range main tourist area) to spot wildlife such as wild water buffalo, swamp deer and various birds. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight near Kaziranga.

After breakfast, depending on your schedule, visit a nearby tea garden such as Hathikuli Tea Estate or the scenic Kakochang Waterfall before heading back to Guwahati for your onward journey with sweet memories.
