From here, move to Ta Promh, the undeniable capital of the kingdom of trees. Veiled in piebald shadow, its peeling towers and walls are locked in the muscular clinch of massive root network.
Next on your Siem Reap tour itinerary is Angkor Wat (Wat stands for a Buddhist monastery or temple). This temple complex is the largest religious monument on earth and also a World Heritage Site since 1992. Also known as S - 21 and the Museum of Genocidal Crime, this was the largest prison, administered by Khmer Rouge. This highly secretive centre was located in a former high school, where thousands of regime’s alleged opponents were tortured before being executed.
Now, you will be taken to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek - once the death ground. 17,000 prisoners of S - 21 prison were transported here to be exterminated to death (1975 - 1978). Admission to these fields includes a brilliant audio tour, available in various languages.
