Day 1 : ARRIVAL IN JOHANNESBURG
Arrive OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg, meet and greet by your African link representative Transfer to hotel. Evening at Leisure. Overnight Johannesburg.
Day 2 : VISITING ALL OF MAHATMA GANDHI’S MOST SIGNIFICANT LOCATIONS
We begin this Majestic tour in Johannesburg. Pick up from hotel in Johannesburg, we embark on this journey on a full day city tour of Johannesburg visiting all of Mahatma Gandhi’s most significant locations in the city, i.e. Constitutional hill, Gandhi Square, Sathyagraha House, Fordsburg and Tolstoy Farm. Lunch en-route. We return to our hotel late afternoon. Dinner at hotel and Overnight.
Day 3 : HALF DAY SOWETO TOUR
Soweto is home to Nelson Mandela and Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu -2 Nobel prize winners. Afternoon Gold Reef City Tour. Gold Reef City is an amusement park in Johannesburg, South Africa. Located on an old gold mine which closed in 1971, the park is themed around the gold rush that started in 1886 on the Witwatersrand.
Day 4 : TOWN OF VOLKSRUST, IN MPUMALANGA
After an early breakfast, we depart Johannesburg for the town of Volksrust, in Mpumalanga. Our 3 hour journey takes us to the OLD PRISON in Volksrust, where Gandhi was incarcerated in 1913.
Lunch en-route. We depart Volksrust after lunch and head for the town of Ladysmith, in the Kwa- Zulu Natal Midlands. We arrive late afternoon in Ladysmith. Relax and unwind. Dinner with Ladysmith Gandhi Committee. Overnight.
Day 5 : EXPLORE THE BATTLEFIELDS
Today we explore the Battlefields were the Siege of Ladysmith occurred. Mohandas Gandhi was a stretcher bearer with General Buller's relief forces after the Siege of Ladysmith and trained some of the 1100 Indians in this dangerous task. After Lunch at the hotel we depart Ladysmith for Pietermaritzburg. On route we stop in Howick to view the Capture Site where Nelson Mandela was arrested and taken to prison for 27 years. Dinner with Pietermaritzburg Gandhi Memorial Committee.Overnight Pietermaritzburg.
Day 6 : CAPE TOWN - ACROBRANCH TOUR
An early start today (08h00am), we experience the rich history that Mahatma Gandhi created in this developing city. We visit the Pietermaritzburg Railway Station, the Gandhi memorial at the city centre, we then proceed to Project Gateway where Kastuba Gandhi was imprisoned for 1 night .
After lunch we travel to Durban towards the Inanda heritage route. Here we visit the Phoenix Settlement. The house is named Sarvodaya – Well Being for All and was originally build for Gandhi & his family when the Phoenix Settlement was established in 1904. Dinner with Gandhi Development Trust members and Overnight in Durban.
Day 7 : CITY TOUR OF DURBAN
Introduce you to Durban, a multicultural City shaped by a complex collaborative history involving the early colonial settlers, the indigenous Zulu population, and the Indian community who arrived as indentured labourers in the 19th century.
After lunch we depart for Durban King Shaka International airport for Cape Town.
Arrival in Cape Town, meet and greet and transfer to hotel. Overnight Cape Town.
Day 8 : CITY TOUR, TABLE MOUNTAIN
Head up Table Mountain and experience the Mother City in all her vibrant glory, from the harbour to the markets and the colourful streets of the Bo Kaap. Robben Island tours in the afternoon: Robben Island needs no introduction with regards to the significance of its place in South Africa’s and indeed the world’s history. As “home” to one of the world’s most famous prisoners, statesmen and leader’s in Nelson Mandela, Robben Island is quite possibly most well known island-prison on the planet. Overnight Cape Town.
Day 9 : FULL DAY PENINSULA TOUR
Full Day Peninsula Tour visiting Hout Bay and experience a boat trip to view the Seals in Seal Island, Cape Point where the Indian and Atlantic Ocean meet and Boulders beach to see penguins. Evening at V&A Waterfront.
Day 10 : DEPARTURE
Day free with airport transfer.
