The Har Ki Dun Trek, famously known as the Valley of Gods, is one of the most scenic and culturally rich treks in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. Nestled at an altitude of around 3,500 meters, this cradle-shaped valley is surrounded by snow-covered peaks, alpine meadows, dense pine forests, and glacial rivers. The trek begins from the quaint village of Sankri, a popular base for several Himalayan treks.
Spanning approximately 44–50 km and typically completed in 6–7 days, Har Ki Dun is considered a moderate trek, suitable for beginners with good fitness as well as experienced trekkers. The trail follows the Supin River, passing through ancient villages such as Taluka, Osla, and Seema, where traditional wooden houses and age-old customs offer a deep insight into Himalayan life.
The valley is closely associated with Hindu mythology and is believed to be the route taken by the Pandavas on their ascent to heaven, adding spiritual significance to the journey. Trekkers are rewarded with stunning views of peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Black Peak.
Drive from Dehradun to Sankri (approx. 8-10 hours).
The journey itself is a scenic introduction to the Garhwal Himalayas, winding through the beautiful Tons River valley and showcasing the initial mountain views. Upon reaching the charming village of Sankri, check into a guesthouse or homestay, meet your trekking team, and spend the evening acclimatizing and preparing gear for the high-altitude adventure ahead.

Trek from Sankri to Juda-ka-Talab (approx. 4 km, 4-5 hours).
Begin the day with a gentle ascent through dense pine and maple forests, enjoying the sweet scent of the mountain air. The trail leads to the serene Juda-ka-Talab, a small lake nestled amid the trees, which often freezes into a skating rink during the deep winter months. Pitch your tents here and enjoy the magnificent sunset views over the valley.

Trek from Juda-ka-Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp (approx. 3 km, 3-4 hours).
Today is a shorter hike, focusing on gaining altitude gradually for better acclimatization, a crucial step before the summit push. The route opens up to vast alpine meadows, offering the first clear and expansive views of the giant peaks like Swargarohini and Bandarpoonch. Spend the afternoon relaxing and reviewing the strategy for tomorrow's challenging summit climb.

Summit Day: Trek from Kedarkantha Base to Kedarkantha Peak and descend to Horegaon (approx. 12 km, 7-8 hours).
Start the climb before dawn to catch the sunrise from the 3800m summit, which offers a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of over 13 Himalayan peaks. After celebrating the accomplishment, descend back to the base camp and continue the downhill trek to the scenic Horegaon campsite for the overnight stay.

Trek from Horegaon to Sankri (approx. 6 km, 3-4 hours).
The final day of walking is an easy downhill descent through dense forests of oak and pine, providing a comfortable conclusion to the strenuous part of the trip. Reach Sankri by early afternoon, check back into your guesthouse, and enjoy a well-deserved, warm meal and the comforts of the base village after conquering the high peak.

Drive from Sankri back to Dehradun (approx. 8-10 hours).
The long, scenic drive is the final leg of the journey, offering one last opportunity to witness the picturesque Garhwal landscapes you have spent the week exploring. This journey marks the end of the expedition, providing time to reflect on the stunning mountain vistas and the personal achievement of reaching the Kedarkantha summit.
