This Kailash pilgrimage Tour is a 10 days journey that begins from Lucknow in India to Holy Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. ‘Leaf Holidays Treks’ has designed this holy program for devotees who have busy and limited time-frames and for elderly citizens who find the journey arduous and inconvenient due to reasons of age and health disabilities. This pilgrimage will operate on a regular basis in the months of May, June, July, August and September . Nepalgunj, a commercial border town in Nepal is the start point of your Kailash visit and can easily be accessed from Lucknow of India through a 4 hours drive. Lucknow is a big city in India and is linked to all International terminals of India so faithful devotees can participate in this sacred journey from anywhere throughout the world. We have fixed departure dates and pilgrims can conveniently participate in our Kailash Tour by Helicopter from our Lucknow Tour Packages. All your important religious rituals will be covered in this brief holy journey; they include procedures of Puja, Hawan in Mansarovar, Mansarovar Parikrama and Kailash Parikrama which are the main holy rituals and the core attractions in this most sacred of all journeys.

The great lakes of Mansarovar and Rakshas Tal which flow in the shadows of Kailash are also venerated manifestations of the Hindu religion and represent the water tanks to the entrance of all Hindu temples. Mansarovar physically takes the shape of the sun and symbolizes light, and so the myth of the lake is said to be formed in the mind of God, created to show the influence of the mind of Brahma. This is why bathing in the lake and drinking its water is a purification process for Hindus and a way of reaching heavenly bliss or Brahma. Just one drop of water from the peacefully beautiful Mansarovar is said to set one free from the sins of a whole lifetime.

PLEASE NOTE:
Devotees arriving through Kathmandu will also join groups in Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj is the best known gateway to Kailash if we opt for the Helicopter route.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : LUCKNOW ARRIVAL & DRIVE TO NEPALGUNJ

  Please give us your arrival details in advance after you’ve confirmed your bookings, so our representative from Leaf Holidays Trek can be present at the airport/railway station to receive you accordingly. From Lucknow, we drive down for about 225 km to reach Nepalgunj. Since the highway is not in good conditions, we reckon it may take at least 5 hours to reach there, which may be a surprise you hadn’t anticipated, we we’d like to inform you in advance about this. After reaching Nepalgunj, we check into our hotel and freshen up. In the evening, we are free to wander around or simply chill out in Nepalgunj. Overnight at Mansion Hotel - our drive from the Indian border of Lucknow to the Nepal border (Rupaidiha): 225 km, 5 hours drive. The drive from Rupaidiha Border to Nepalgunj: 6 km.

• Day 2 : FLY TO SIMIKOT & OVERNIGHT STAY

  After breakfast at our Nepalgunj hotel, we pack everything and board a 40-minute flight from Nepalgunj to Simikot and appreciate the beauty of the soaring mountain cliffs from the airplane. Simikot is the head quartesr of Humla District and is still an untouched district from the rest of the country due to its remoteness. Hereabouts, we will enjoy the unique Tibetan influenced culture of the locals and their lifestyles. Then we will have our lunch in Simikot and also register for permits at the police office. Simikot is an ideal place to make a night halt for acclimatization reasons. Simikot has a STOL airport (Short Take Off and Landing) where only small aircraft can land. The aircraft we use from Nepalgunj can only carry 15 people at a time. We stay overnight in Simikot for acclimatization.

• Day 3 : SIMIKOT - HILSA (BY HELICOPTER), WE THEN ENTER TAKLAKOT (TIBET)

  After an early morning breakfast, we will pack our luggage then trek down to the airport and board our helicopter. The helicopter flight from Simikot to Hilsa takes about 25 minutes (one way) only. The flight path passes through deep Karnali River-gorge and narrow remote valleys, where the weather normally fluctuates from late morning onward. So we use more shuttle flights early in the morning and bring all group members to Hilsa. We use the Euro copter (B3) that can carry only 5 persons + 10 kg luggage at a time. Since the helicopter has limited capacity to carry luggage or people, we request you not to carry any unnecessary baggage. We use two helicopters at a time, so we can airlift our group members to Hilsa as soon as possible. After all group members are transferred to Hilsa by helicopter, you will cross the border then drive to Taklakot (Purang). As per the visa rule of the Chinese government, all group members should enter together and exit together. So, until and unless all members do not come to Hilsa, no one can cross the border. The drive from Hilsa to Taklakot takes about 45 minutes. The drive is about 27 km. - Overnight at Purang Guesthouse

• Day 4 : REST IN TAKLAKOT FOR ACCLIMATIZATION

  Today, we will rest in Taklakot for acclimatization purposes so we can get used to the thin air. Before making any further journey to higher elevations, our body should be acclimatized properly with the atmosphere in high altitude. So, it is notably important to spend a day here for your health.
  We can also arrange a short visit to the Khojarnath temple which is an optional program or you may leisurely walk around the city on your own and visit the ruins of ancient Taklakot. Overnight at our guest house - the Elevation of Taklakot is: 4025 m/13202 ft

• Day 5 : TAKLAKOT TO LAKE MANSAROVAR

  After our breakfast, we leave Taklakot in a private jeep for Lake Mansarovar. Right from the beginning, the highway commences making a gradual ascent. The road still keeps ascending up to the High Pass, which lies before Rakshas Lake. The drive to Lake Mansarovar takes about two to three hours as we cruise while enjoying the scenic landscapes of the holy land. On the way we will have a short break in Rakshas Taal where we can take some pictures and enjoy the sceneries. The lake 'Rakshas' represents the force of the devil. This is where Ravana, 'the mighty King of Lanka', had performed a penance to lord Shiva for 5000 years. We will make a brief halt at the shore of Lake Rakshas, soak in the views and take pictures; then continue our journey towards Lake Mansarovar. Then after a holy dip and lunch, we will depart for a circumambulation around the lake Mansarovar in a private jeep. This takes approximately 3 hours. Overnight at guest house - Taklakot to Lake Mansarovar is: 88 km | one & half hour. - Elevation of Lake Mansarovar is: 4550m /14,925 ft - Expected temperature: day time: - 22 to 32 degree Celsius; night time: - 3 to 4 degrees - Climatic conditions: windy.

• Day 6 : DRIVE DARCHEN TO YAMADWAR - THEN TREK TO DERAPHUK

  After performing Havan/Pooja in the morning and taking a holy dip in the lake, we drive towards Darchen from where we can get the closest views of Mount Kailash. Those who are willing to make the holy circumambulation around the Mt. Kailash will start trekking from "Yama Dwar", while rest of the people who are not willing to go for trekking will return to Darchen by Jeep and wait for others to come. The total journey to Deraphuk monastery is 5 to 6 hours. The route is quite easy, flat but the ascent is mild. Due to its extreme elevation, we feel tired while walking and need to have a break very frequently. However, it depends on your pace. Overnight at a mud house or fixed tent accommodation with bed -
  Lake mansarovar to Yama Dwara is: 45 km | 1 & half hour drive. - Yama Dwar – Deraphuk is: 10 km | 5 - 6 hour trek - Elevation of Deraphuk is: 4920m /16,138 ft - Expected temperature: day time:-12 to 18 degree Celsius/night time: -5 to 8 degrees - Average climatic condition: windy, partly cloudy & maybe rainy.

• Day 7 : DERAPHUK TO ZUTULPHUK

  Today is the toughest day of our entire journey. Early in the morning we start walking up hill ascending to Drolma-La at (5636m). The entire trail up to Drolma-La is gradually up and from here the trail rapidly drops down to the next valley Zuthul Phuk. This particular portion of the trek is a rapid incline and the track is full of boulders and screes, so one should pay continued attention while trekking down here. The holiest water pond (Gauri kunda) is just situated beyond this pass. People believe that Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva used to take a bath in this lake. After making the downhill trek to the valley, the trek to Zuthul Phuk monastery requires another two hours. The trail is easy and flat up to Zutulphuk. And then finally we will reach Zuthul Phuk where we spend overnight at a mud house or fixed tent accommodation with bed. Deraphuk to Zutulphuk is: 21 km | (8 - 9 hours trek). - The highest point to cross over: Dolma La pass (5600m/18,368 ft) - Elevation of Zutulphuk is: 4820m/15,810 ft. - Expected temperature is: 14 to 22 degree Celsius/ night time: -3 to 5 degrees - Average climatic condition: windy

• Day 8 : TREK THEN DRIVE BACK TO PURANG/ TAKLAKOT

  Today, we finish our trek/Kora near Darchen where our vehicles will be waiting to fetch you and transfer to Taklakot via the same route. Undoubtedly, today is the most hectic day of your journey. You need to yet go for another 08 km walk to accomplish the circumambulation; then drive all the way to Hilsa. As usual after morning meals, you will pack up your belongings then be ready to move on to Purang/Taklakot. Overnight at guest house - Zutulphuk to trek ending point is: 08 km | 3 hours. - Trek ending point to Taklakot is: 105 km | 2 hours.

• Day 9 : TAKLAKOT- HILSA - SIMIKOT

  It takes 45 minutes to reach Hilsa, where you have to go through immigration paperwork. From Taklakot, a military person will accompany the group towards Hilsa. After having your luggage checked and going through some further formalities again at the border, you will cross over the Suspension bridge of Karnali River, and then enter into the territory of Nepal following which we then fly to Simikot. Overnight stay in our Resort -Taklakot to Hilsa border is: 27 km | 45 minutes - Hilsa to Simikot flight by Helicopter | 25 minutes.

• Day 10 : FLY TO NEPALGUNJ AND THEN CONTINUE TO LUCKNOW OR KATHMANDU

  Final Departure for home sweet home!
  Early in the morning we fly to Nepalgunj by aircraft and then continue our onward journey by flight or drive to Lucknow or Kathmandu.
  In Kathmandu, After Breakfast at our Hotel, we will check out and Leaf holidays Trek Pvt. Ltd’s representative will take you to the Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure home.
