The 6 days Machame route is specially designed to give you enough time to acclimatise and summit safely, giving you an edge over the 6 days Machame Route variant. The Machame route, popularly nicknamed the Whiskey route, is one of the most popular routes used to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail offers unparalleled natural beauty and is favored by adventure seekers because it is more challenging, steep and difficult compared to other routes. It is suitable for climbers with previous high altitude trekking experience. The route begins at Machame Gate and finishes by descending via the Mweka Route, exiting at Mweka Gate. Transfers to and from Moshi are included.
Begin at Machame Gate (1790m) and trek to Machame Camp (3010m). This first day involves ascent from the gate into the Kilimanjaro forest and continued trekking to reach the Machame Camp where climbers will camp overnight. The day establishes the start of the acclimatisation profile for the Machame route.
Trek from Machame Camp (3010m) to Shira Camp (3845m). The day involves continued ascent above the forest zone onto moorland and shira plateau landscapes, gaining altitude to reach Shira Camp for the night.
Trek from Shira Cave area (3845m) to Barranco Camp (3960m). This day moves from the Shira plateau towards the southern circuit and approaches Barranco Camp, continuing the acclimatisation process with varied terrain and scenic viewpoints.
Trek from Barranco Camp (3960m) to Barafu Camp (4640m). This day includes further ascent and exposure to alpine conditions, moving from Barranco Camp and continuing the climb to the high altitude Barafu Camp, preparing for the summit push.
Night or early morning summit push from Barafu Camp (4640m) to UHURU PEAK (5895m) followed by descent to Millennium Camp (3790m). This is the summit day where climbers ascend to the highest point, then descend to lower elevation for recovery and overnight at Millennium Camp.
Trek from Millennium Camp (3790m) down to Mweka Gate (1630m) concluding the climb. After descent via the Mweka Route and exiting at Mweka Gate, transfers back to Moshi hotel are provided as included in the tour.
