Manali - Malana - 3 Nts / 4 Days

The trek starts from the small village of Naggar which has an ancient castle of the Kullu rajahs now converted into a Tourism Hotel. A bit uphill is the quaint cottage of Nicolas Roerich the famous Russian philosopher and painter who lived here till the mid 1940s. It is now a museum run by a trust supported by the Russian government. The trail ascends steeply along a dry rivulet and reaches the charming Rumsu village. Camp is held about 2 hours ahead of this village at Sterling.

Climbing gradually, we cross lush green meadows and stately forests of Deodar, Oak and Fir till we reach the foot of the 3610-metre high Chanderkhani Pass. The location is very beautiful, various flora can be find, moreover one can see the amazing view of Dhauladhar Range.

Today, we start steep climbing to reach top of Chanderkhani Pass (early months snow covered). From the top of Chanderkhani pass, one can see the Malana Glacier, Ali Ratn Range, Rasol Jot & beautiful Deo-Tibba peak (6001M). Instead of going directly to Malana village, we take a round curve walk & camping at Nagruni.

We start walking downward to Malana village, which is a soul of this trek.
Malana is still comparatively isolated and its inhabitants have an unusual history which traces their ancestry to one of the lost armies of Alexander the Great who tried to unsuccessfully over run India in 56 BC. Their language and coarse costumes are quite different than that of the rest of the Kullu valley and so are their customs. Leather is taboo and so is the touching of anything within the village. Later, arriving at Jari, vehicles waiting for us & drive back to Manali.
