5 Nights / 6 Days
The Marangu Route, often referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is one of the most popular paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its relative ease and well-defined trails, it allows climbers to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes while experiencing the diverse ecosystems of Tanzania. The Marangu Route is also unique in that it offers hut accommodations, making it more comfortable than camping routes. This 6-day itinerary provides climbers with ample opportunities to acclimatize, ensuring a higher chance of reaching the summit successfully.
Arrive in Moshi, where you will be greeted and transferred to a comfortable lodge. Meet your climbing team, review your itinerary, and ensure your gear is ready for the trek. Enjoy a welcome dinner and prepare for your adventure ahead.
After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate. Begin your trek through lush rainforest, where you might spot monkeys and a variety of bird species. Hike approximately 8 kilometers (5 miles) to Mandara Hut (2,700 m), where you’ll find comfortable bunk beds. Enjoy dinner and relax in the cool mountain air.
After breakfast, continue your ascent to Horombo Hut (3,720 m). As you trek through the moorland zone, take in the stunning vistas of Mawenzi Peak. This section covers approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles). After arriving at Horombo Hut, take some time to acclimatize. Enjoy your evening meal and prepare for the next day's acclimatization hike.
This is an essential acclimatization day. After breakfast, take a day hike towards Mawenzi Peak, climbing to around 4,200 m before descending back to Horombo Hut. This trek helps your body adjust to the altitude. In the evening, gather around for dinner and share stories with fellow climbers.
Today, you'll trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,703 m), covering about 10 kilometres (6.2 miles). As you ascend into the alpine desert, the scenery changes dramatically. After reaching Kibo Hut, have an early dinner and rest in preparation for your summit attempt, which will start in the middle of the night.
You will wake up around midnight to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). The trek takes roughly six hours, with participants focusing on their goal as they navigate the varied terrain under a sky full of stars. Witness the sunrise as you reach the summit—an exhilarating experience! After taking photos and celebrating your accomplishment, descend to Kibo Hut for a short break. From there, continue back down to Marangu Gate (1,800 m), where you will conclude your trek and be awarded your summit certificate. Afterward, return to Moshi for a well-deserved celebration dinner.
