Destination Covered
New Delhi - Haldwani - Nainital - Chamoli

  • Day 1 : Delhi-Haldwani/Kathgodam

    Description :

A train is the best mode of transport for this leg. There are mainly three trains (Shatabdi Express, Uttar Sampark Kranti Express and Ranikhet Express) available between Delhi and Haldwani. I always recommend Ranikhet Express as it starts from Delhi in the night at 10:30 PM and reaches Haldwani in the morning at 04:30 AM. Reaching Haldwani in the early morning is a good idea for onward journey. Kathgodam is the last rail-head on this section and 10 kms away from Haldwani. It is better to leave the train at Haldwani, rather than Kathgodam, because Haldwani is a bigger city and transports for onward journey can be arranged here in a better manner

  • Other Benefits (On Arrival)
    Description :
This trek visits Roop Kund a pond which became famous when large number of Human bones were discovered. Explorers and scientists then tried to explain the mystery, but the mystery was never solved. Two theories have emerged; One is that these bones are of Gen. Zorawar Singh of Kashmir and his men who were coming back after raiding China-Tibet in the 17th Century. A second opinion, which is also believed by locals, is that large numbers of people visiting Roop Kund were trapped in avalanches and snowstorms and were killed. Not even a single man survived to tell the true story. Alpine forests of bhojpatra, (the famous "paper tree"), juniper, and the stately deodar. The famous land scapes bBedni bugyals (Alpine meadows). Spectacular views of the famous snow capped high Himalalayas . Hardy bakriwale (mountain headers) with their flocks of sheep & goats, frequent sightings of families of lithe & lively langoor (like a black-faced monkey) swinging through the tree canopy high above. Visits to local picturesque mountain villagas. End the trek in the fascinating spiritual & philosophical center of India - colorful Swagashram at Rishkesh.
