Head north for species you will not see in the Mara — reticulated giraffe, Grevys zebra, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx — along a palm-fringed river wilderness. This short northern frontier safari focuses on Samburu and Buffalo Springs with riverine game drives, special five tracking of endemic species, cultural visits to Samburu villages, and dramatic arid scenery.
Fly or drive from Nairobi to Samburu or Buffalo Springs. Arrive and settle into camp or lodge, then head out in the afternoon for a riverine drive along the Ewaso Nyiro to view wildlife congregating on the river banks and to experience the dramatic arid scenery of the region.
A full day dedicated to locating northern endemics and experiencing the unique wildlife of Samburu. Focus will be on tracking the Special Five and other northern species along and around the Ewaso Nyiro, and on locating elephant herds that frequent the riverine areas. Extensive game drives across the reserve are included.
Morning Samburu village experience to engage with local culture and learn about community life and conservation. In the afternoon enjoy game driving in the golden light for wildlife viewing and photography, with opportunities to revisit habitats of species seen earlier in the trip.
Morning drive in the reserve followed by departure from Samburu. Transfer by road or flight back to Nairobi concluding the safari.
