Being blessed with the treasures and teachings of Lord Buddha during his three visits; Sri Lanka is one of the major Buddhist countries in the world. Buddhism was introduced into Sri Lanka in the 4th century BC by Venerable Mahinda, the son of the Emperor Ashoka, during the reign of Sri Lanka's King Devanampiya Tissa.
Later, being a Buddhist became the compulsory to become the King of the country, the Buddhism was treated as the religion of the country by ancient kings. The places that Lord Buddha visited become the places of veneration in the country and the ancient kind built pagodas, temples & structures to remark his visits.
The “Sacred Boo Tree” in Anuradhapura is considered as a tree from a root of the Boo Tree which Lord Buddha enlightened.
The Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha was brought to Sri Lanka and latterly the one who possesses the Tooth Relic was considered as the King of the Country. At present it is kept in a Relic Casket at Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.US $ 50 reduction for the passport holders of the SAARC countries.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival - Chilaw

A representative of Asian Escapes will meet you at the Katunayake International Airport upon your arrival to Sri Lanka and transfer to Chilaw. Visit Munneshwaram Temple in Chilaw in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at Amagi Beach Hotel in Chiaw.

Day 2 : Chilaw - Anuradhapura

Leave for Anuradhapura after having breakfast at your hotel in Negombo. Visit the places of veneration in Anuradhapura in the evening. This tour includes, Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweli Stupa, Abhayagiri Stupa, Mirisaweti Stupa, Jetawana Stupa, Brazens Palace, Thuparama Stupa and Lankarama Temple. Check in at Ceylan Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 : Anuradhapura - Mihintale - Anuradhapura

Breakfast at the Hotel. Visit the rest of the places of veneration that couldn’t cover on the previous day. In the evening, visit Mihintale Monastery where Arahath Mahinda Thero (the son of Emperor Ashoka in Ayodhya) which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Witness the rock where the Buddhists monks meet King Devanampiya Tissa and back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4 : Anuradhapura - Polonnaruwa

Proceed to Polonnaruwa via Avukana. Visit the rock statue of Lord Buddha in Aukana on your way to Polonnaruwa. Check in Ruins Chaaya Hotel in Polonnaruwa. In the evening visit the Polonnaruwa Historical site which is one of the best planned archaeological sites in Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa kingdom was the second kingdom of the ancient Sri Lanka. Back at the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 : Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya - Dambulla

Breakfast at the Hotel. Proceed to Dambulla after breakfast. You will have the option of visiting Sigiriya Rock Fortress, which is one of the key attractions in Sri Lanka. Proceed to Dambulla and check in at your hotel. Visit Dambulla Cave Temple: a UNESCO World Heritage which has 5 caves with hundreds of Buddha Statues in different postures and frescos in the cave walls. Also visit the Golden Temple in which is recently built. The Buddhist Museum in the Golden Temple is an optional activity where you will be able to do it if you are keen. Check in at Nice Place Hotel for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6 : Dambulla - Matale - Kandy

Proceed to Kandy via Matale. Visit Aluvihara Temple in Matale in which the Buddhist Doctrine after having been handed down orally for several centuries was first transcribed into Ola leaf books in 1st Century BC. Proceed to Kandy; the most venerated City for the Buddhists in Sri Lanka. Check in at Emerald Hill Hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7 : Kandy - Three Temples

Breakfast at the Hotel. Visit three famous Temples around Kandy, which are Lankathilake Temple, Embekka Shrine & Gadaladeniya Temple. Evening visit the most sacred place of Buddhists in Sri Lanka; The temple of Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. In the evening you will be taken a city tour in Kandy where you will be able to visit shops, gem lapidaries, herbal gardens etc… The late evening you will be watching a Cultural Show in Kandy. Back at your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8 : Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Leave for Nuwara Eliya after breakfast. Visit Peradeniya Botanical Garden before you proceed to Nuwara Eliya. Today’s drive will enable you to capture the fascinating views of misty mountains, scenic landscapes, tea estates and waterfalls. Visit a Tea Factory enroute to witness the process of making world renowned Ceylon Tea. Check in Lake View Comfort Hotel in Nuwara Eliya. In the evening you will be free to walk in the Nuwara Eliya town area and interact with the local community. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Nuwara Eliya.

Day 9 : Nuwara Eliya - Colombo

After breakfast at the hotel leave for Colombo. Visit Kelaniya Temple enroute. Check in at Ceylon City Hotel upon your arrival at Colombo and leave go for a City Tour. Visit the attractions scattered around the city and back to the hotel. In the evening you are free to experience the night life of the Colombo City. Dinner and overnight stay in Colombo.

More than 28 Days Prior: No Charge

Between 14 to 28 Days Prior: 25 % of the value of the entire tour

Cancellations within 14 days of the arrival date - 50% of the value of the entire tour

Cancellations within 07 days of the arrival date - 100% of the value of the entire tour
