Bagamoyo is a little over an hour drive north of Dar es Salaam. Bagamoyo is a historical city where you can see ruins (dating back to 13th century), the beach, arts and learn the early history of East African Christianity as well as explore the history of the painful and infamous slave trade. This is a great opportunity to take a quick trip out of the city and dive deep into the history and culture of Tanzania and then relax on the beach before returning to Dar es Salaam.

This is a private tour of the historical and cultural town of Bagamoyo. The name Bagamoyo comes from the Swahili words "Bwaga Moyo" or "throw/drop your heart". It is believed to reference the time when people captured as slaves from upcountry were brought to this coastal town and prepared to be sold and shipped to Zanzibar and beyond. It was a point of no return for the slaves
You will be picked up in the early morning from an agreed-upon location/hotel within the Dar Es Salaam vicinity
Based on your interest, you will visit a combination of the following sites: Kaole Ruins (dating back to the 13th century), fish market, former slave prison, the hanging tower (for runaway slaves or those who fought foreign powers), Caravan Serai Museum (linked to ivory and slave trade), the old Catholic church (the first in East Africa) & Museum, the beaches, local art market, etc
You will stop for lunch in the afternoon (not included in the price)
- In the evening, we will drive you back to Dar Es Salaam.
