  Situated on the floor of the world-famous Great Rift Valley, Mount Longonot is a dormant volcano that last erupted in the 1800s. Located just 90km from Nairobi, it is the perfect location for an adventurous day trip out of the Kenyan capital.
  
  Mont Longonot offers a Great One Day Trek from Nairobi. Mt Longonot hike weekend excursions are quite popular so the best time to start out is early morning to avoid the scorching sun. Ensure you wear hiking gear and comfortable footwear that is not slippery. Carry drinking water, sweet snacks for energy, binoculars, a camera and a hat (because of the sun), sunscreen, and sunglasses.
  
  The whole tour of Mount Longonot including the walk around the crater rim takes about 4-6 hours allowing for necessary breaks.
