Great Rift Valley. Bwindi is home to over 350 endangered mountain gorillas which are quite possibly the most awe-inspiring animals to be found in Africa. There are also 346 species of birds and over 200 species of butterflies. Gorilla tracking is the major tourist activity in Bwindi with four groups currently available daily for tourists. The Mubare group (ten membes, one silverback) was opened for tourism in 1993, and the Habinyanja group (eighteen members, two silverbacks) was ready in July 1998. The Rusheguru group (ten members, one silverback) was opened in July 2002, while the Nkuringo group (nineteen members, two silverbacks) was opened for tourism in April 2004. Gorilla tracking in Bwindi can be challenging, therefore a certain amount of physical fitness is required. Tracking starts in the early morning, around 8:30 a.m., and can last from a few hours to day depending on the movement of these giant apes.
Day 1 : Kampala - Bwindi Gorilla Park
Depart from Kampala at 8:00 am and head towards Western Uganda. A brief stop at the Equator allows time for photographs. During the drive, you will see long-horned Ankole cattle, the rolling hills and terraced landscapes of the region, and beautiful panoramas that are part of the Kabala District. We have a lunch break en-route at Lake View Regency Hotel Mbarara. We arrive at the park in the late evening. Overnight at Lake Kitandara Luxury Tents/ Buhoma Community Bandas.
Day 2 : Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Forest
After an early morning breakfast and guide briefing, set off for your gorilla tracking in the forests of Bwindi. Gorilla tracking can be strenuous because of Bwindi’s challenging terrain. You will need to carry a packed lunch and drinking water, and wear comfortable boots or sturdy shoes, as well as carry a light rain jacket as Bwindi has unpredictable weather. Walking sticks will be available from the park rangers. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kitandara Luxury Camp/Buhoma Community Bandas.
Day 3 : Transfer to Kampala
After an early breakfast at the camp, drive back to Kampala having lunch en-route. Thank you for choosing an Abacus safari!
