At 4,566 meters, Mount Meru is an ideal warm-up climb for Kilimanjaro or a standalone adventure for avid hikers seeking a quieter trail with rich wildlife and dramatic alpine scenery.

Located within the stunning Arusha National Park, the trek traverses multiple ecological zones—from savannah dotted with giraffes and zebras to lush montane forests and rugged ridgelines—culminating in a thrilling summit push with panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and the Ash Cone crater below.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrival in Arusha

  Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport, a Safari Spirit Journeys representative will meet and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. We’ll assist with trek preparation, including equipment checks and confirming travel insurance or medical clearance if required. Rest and acclimate before your adventure begins.
  
  Arusha – Momela Gate – Miriakamba Hut
  
  After breakfast, drive to Momela Gate in Arusha National Park. Following registration and a safety briefing, begin your trek with an armed ranger. As you ascend through savannah and forest, you may spot giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, monkeys, and even elephants. The day ends at Miriakamba Hut, tucked into lush montane forest.

• Day 2 : Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

  Today’s hike is shorter but steeper, with the trail weaving through misty forest into open heathland. Reach Saddle Hut in time for lunch and enjoy incredible views of Meru Crater and the Ash Cone. An optional evening hike to Little Meru (3,820m) offers a perfect acclimatization bonus and stunning sunset vistas.

• Day 3 : Summit Day – Saddle Hut to Mount Meru Summit & Descent to Momela Gate

  Begin your summit attempt just after midnight. Ascend past Rhino Point (3,800m) and Cobra Point (4,350m), navigating a narrow, exhilarating ridge to Mount Meru’s summit (4,566m) in time for sunrise. Take in commanding views of Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds. After a brief celebration, descend to Saddle Hut for a well-earned brunch, then continue to Momela Gate, where your driver awaits.
  
  Total Trek Time: 12–14 hours
  Summit Elevation: 4,566m
  Descent to: Momela Gate
  Transfer: Back to your Arusha hotel (Full Board)

  Enjoy a relaxed morning before your private transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport for your onward journey. Optional extensions to a safari in the Serengeti or a Zanzibar beach escape can be added upon request.
