Kounsarnag Trek is one among the most famous high altitude Alpine trek in Kashmir. The Lake is Oligotrophic in nature & is the largest high-altitude lake in Kashmir with a maximum length of 2.35 kms and maximum width of 825 mts. The best thing about Kaunsarnag trek is that one gets the mesmerizing views of Ice bergs floating on the surface of lake. This adds to the beauty of the lake to the extend that one feels himself in Antarctica

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Srinagar

Arrive Srinagar Airport & Proceed to Check in at your hotel Houseboat. Later local sightseeing of Srinagar City. Evening Back to the Houseboat. Dinner & overnight at Houseboat Hotel.

Day 2

(aharbal – Mahinag 14 Kms)

After early breakfast, Procced to Aharbal (Approx 65 Kms & will take 3 hrs). Stop at huge waterfall at Aharbal also known as Niagra of Kashmir, Kaunsarnag lake is actual source of the waterfall flowing in the form of Vaishav river. We will have tea coffee snacks at the beautiful fall & the prepare for the trek. One the way pass through Pine forests along with the sounds of Gushing water streams and chirping of birds. One can also witness some beautiful verities of wild flowers. Arrive Kongwattan meadow nestled by pine forests & mighty Himalayan mountains. Dry lunch break at Kongwattan. Later procced further and stop at Mahinag for a night halt. Overnight stay at Mahinag spring in tents. (Trek gradient – basic to intermediate)

Day 3

(mahinag To Kounsarnag 9 Kms)

Today morning after breakfast at Mahinag spring, pack your stuff and proceed to Kounsarnag lake. This leg of trek is very steep and challenging. On the way one has to pass through huge rocks and cross river streams at many occasions. Arrive Kaunsarnag campsite & set your tents. Post tent installation & other stuff we have free time to explore Lake & its surroundings. Overnight at KounsarNAG Lake in Tents.

Day 4

Kaunsarnag Lake

After breakfast, start your trek towards Ashtar meadow, we will cross through Shaliganga river. Ashtar Velley is the most beautiful part of your trek & one can see Sunset Peak from very close at Ashtar. You will spend a good tand set your tents. Enjoy free time at lake side among beautiful snowclad mountains. Overnight at Kaunsarnag Lake.

Day 5

Kongwattan Meadow

After breakfast one can visit lake from the opposite side and then head back. Tonight we will stay in Kongwattan meadow. Overnight at Kongwattan meadow.

Day 6

Srinagar

After breakfast pack your tents and trekking gear and proceed back to Aharbal via same route. Arrive Aharbal & then meet your vehivcle at parking and proceed back to Srinagar. Overnight at Srinagar Hotel.

Day 7

Departure

After breakfast checkout from Srinagar hotel & proceed to Airport to board your return flight back home as per flight details.
