Dawn drives target the predators: lion prides returning from night hunts, spotted hyenas at their dens and the cheetah families that hunt the open Musiara plains. Afternoon drives follow the Mara River for potential wildebeest crossings (July–October) or focus on the dense riverine forest where leopards spend daylight hours hidden in fig trees. Buffalo herds of thousands graze the plains, and the Mara's elephant population includes some of the largest-tusked individuals remaining in East Africa.
