7-Day Western Kenya - Trail Blazer Safari Tour

Leave Nairobi in the morning and travel west toward Kericho. Stop for lunch and enjoy a short walk through tea plantations to stretch your legs and see Kenya’s highland scenery. Continue via Lwanda Magere (the legendary Luo warrior turned to stone) and onward to Kisumu for dinner and overnight. Optional short evening visit to local points of interest if time allows (e.g., Kit Mikaye viewpoint).

After breakfast drive to Kaloka Beach and take a boat to Ndere Island National Park for island walks, shore birding and light wildlife spotting. Return by boat to Kaloka. En route back to Kisumu visit Kit Mikaye (the famous rock formation) and enjoy lunch in town. In Kisumu you may visit Impala Park, the Kisumu Museum or Dunga Beach (optional) before driving on to Kakamega, arriving late evening for dinner and overnight.

A full day exploring Kakamega Forest with local forest guides: search for primates (Blue and Red colobus, De Brazza’s, vervet), forest mammals, butterflies and abundant birdlife. Kakamega’s ancient trees and canopy trails are highlights — watch for nocturnal species and diverse reptiles if your program includes a dusk activity. Late afternoon transfer back to Kisumu for dinner and overnight.

Leave Kisumu after breakfast; drive south through the Kano Plains rice fields to Odino Falls, then continue to Kendu Bay for lunch. Visit Simbi Nyaima (a small crater lake with rich birdlife), then the hot springs at Kanjira and Kanam before proceeding to Homa Bay for dinner and overnight.

Drive to Rusinga Island, tour historical and cultural sites including the museum (noted for palaeoanthropological finds) and the Tom Mboya Mausoleum. After exploration, transfer to Mbita on the lakeshore for dinner and overnight.

Depart Mbita after breakfast and drive via scenic roads to Ruma National Park. Enjoy a picnic lunch and game drive — Ruma protects Kenya’s only indigenous population of roan antelopes along with oribi, buffalo and diverse savannah birds. After your visit continue to Gogo Falls / Thim Lich Ohinga area en route to Awendo for dinner and overnight.

Depart Awendo and drive through sugar plantations to Tabaka — the Kisii soapstone carving centre — where you can shop for souvenirs and see stonecarving demonstrations. Continue to Nairobi with lunch en route, arriving in the late evening. Trip ends on arrival.
