Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Pick up Jammu–Katra Vaishno Devi Darshan

Arrive at Jammu Airport and proceed to check-in at Hotel at Katra (50 Kms/1.5 Hours). Katra or Katra Vaishno Devi, as it is popularly known, is a small town in Reasi district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India, situated in the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains, where the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi is located. It is located 42 km (26 mi) from the city of Jammu. Check-in at Hotel Dinner and Overnight stay at Hotel Lemmon Tree

  • Day 2 : In Katra Vaishno Devi Darshan

After breakfast at hotel, you can visit Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan- one of the most popular pilgrimages of India situated in the lap of Trikuta mountains across Katra town at an altitude of around 5200 feet. Yatra involves a trek of nearly 12 Kms from base camp at Katra known as Ban Ganga. Alternate way to perform darshans is by Ponies/Palkis/ Helicopter. If time permits, visit Bhairo Temple & return back to Katra in the evening. (Walking for 12-13 Kms. can be arduous and tiring for those not used to it. Still many pilgrims prefer to walk all the way. It helps in cleansing their minds before they reach the Holy Shrine. The tiredness and exhaustion of the trek serve as penances and their minds become still, meditative, full of devotion and gratitude for the mother. The serenity of the environment also influences the devotees and a mystical calm starts enveloping them. Yet there are many pilgrims who are overweight or otherwise not fit to walk for long. Many devotees have breathing problems or some other ailments or are old or physically challenged. All or some of them may need the services of ponies and palanquins. Interestingly, many pilgrims tend to walk all the way to the Holy Shrine out of faith and devotion and after the Darshans feel so tired that they have to hire horses for the return journey. While nothing is wrong with it, a downhill trip on a pony may sometimes be more tiring and exhausting for the whole body as compared to the uphill travel. This needs to be kept in mind before deciding on a course of action. In addition to ponies, porters (popularly called Pithus) may also be required for carrying luggage or for carrying young children who are afraid to or are too young to ride a horse. Other than carrying luggage, Pithus can also carry small children (who are afraid or cannot manage to ride a horse) or light weighted old people. The Pony, Porter and Palanquin services are managed by the local/under a municipal committee organizing the local municipal affairs. All these porters, pony owners and palanquin (palki) owners are registered with municipal committee and carry an identity card/token number. Their cards/permits are renewed every year and new cards carrying a fresh validity date are issued. Any card that is outside the scope of this validity date is naturally invalid and hence disqualifies its owners from offering services on the track. Many unregistered Pithus tend to show their old and invalid cards to get work. Yatries are advised to carefully scan the identity card/token of the porter/pony owner and satisfy themselves about its validity. It is also advisable to retain this identity card and handover the same only after satisfactorily reaching the destination.
The rates of all these services are fixed. Information about these rates is available on various sign boards and at the Assistance Centers at Katra, Banganga and other places. The currently prevailing rates must be verified from the Assistance Counters or the sign boards. One must avoid paying anything over and above the fixed rates. One can always offer them food, refreshment etc. if one wishes to, but it is out of choice and is not mandatory. For any difficulty or information, one may contact the municipal committee counters or the Shrine Board Offices. It may also be noted that palanquins (palkies), porters or ponies are far easier to hire at the beginning of the journey than in the middle.Dinner and Overnight stay at Hotel Lemmon Tree

    Mughal Gardens
Exquisitely laid out lawns, cascading fountains, bright flower beds, surrounded by the panorama of Dal lake in front of them, the gardens in Kashmir are astoundingly beautiful. The unity and harmony of design; innovative use of the site and plantings and the diverse mixture of colors, textures and plants impart a sense of ecstasy to the viewer. The Mughal gardens of Shalimar, Nishat, Chashmeshahi and others like Pari Mahal and Harwan are like perfectly carved lawns with stepped terraces and flowing watercourses.

    Shalimar Bagh
Shalimar Bagh was built by Emperor Jehangir for his wife Nur Jahan, 'light of the world' in 1616. Although it is known today as the 'garden of love' it was originally named the Farah Bakhsh or 'delightful garden'. A chanal is lined with polished stones and is supplied with water from Harwan runs through the middle of the garden. The fourth terrace, by far the best, was once reserved for royal ladies. It included a pavilion made of black stone in the middle of the tank, which was used as a banquet hall. Shalimar Bagh has an air of seclusion and repose, and its rows of fountains and shaded trees seem to recede towards the snowcapped mountains. A Son Et Lumeiere or sound and light show is put on here every evening during the may to October tourist season.

    Nishat Bagh
Nishat Bagh was built by Empress Nur Jahan's brother Asaf Khan. The largest of the Mughal gardens, Nishat has 12 terraces representing the 12 signs of the zodiac, which descend gradually and seem to almost merge into the lake. These terraces viewed along with the flower-beds, a riot of brilliant colors, present an unforgettable sight. Directly behind the garden is the Gopi Tirth, a small spring gushing forth crystal clear water, which feeds the garden water. Also found within its vicinity are some remains of Mughal period buildings including a double storey pavilion enclosed on two sides latticed windows.
