Package Overview

The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and offer you more opportunity to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Beginning on the western side of the mountain, the trail passes through lush rainforest, the Shira Plateau, alpine desert, and the icy summit zone. This 9-day itinerary (1 night in Moshi + 8 days/7 nights on the mountain) provides excellent acclimatization, increasing your chances of a successful summit at Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft) – the highest point in Africa.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

  Pickup from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for briefing and gear check. Overnight stay in Moshi.

• Day 2 : Day 2: Moshi – Lemosho Gate – Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa)

  Elevation: 1,000m → 2,100m → 2,780m
  Distance: ~7 km / 4.3 miles
  Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
  Habitat: Rainforest
  Drive from Moshi (~2–3 hrs) to Lemosho Gate for registration. Start trekking through the rainforest – look out for monkeys and colorful birds. Overnight at Big Tree Camp.

  A steady climb out of the forest into open moorland. Camp on the wide Shira Plateau with great views.

  Distance: ~7 km / 4.3 miles

  A short and easy day across the plateau. Perfect for acclimatization. Overnight at Shira 2.

  Distance: ~10 km / 6.2 miles
  Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
  Habitat: Semi-desert
  Climb up to Lava Tower for lunch (great acclimatization stop), then descend into the Barranco Valley. Overnight at Barranco Camp.

  Elevation: 3,950m → 4,200m
  Distance: ~6 km / 3.75 miles
  Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

  Scramble up the famous Barranco Wall (fun and scenic), then trek on to Karanga Camp.

• Day 7 : Day 7: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp – Summit Attempt

  Elevation: 4,000m → 4,673m → 5,895m → 3,100m
  Distance: ~17 km / 10.5 miles total
  Hiking Time: 12–15 hours
  Habitat: Alpine desert → Arctic → forest edge
  Hike to Barafu Camp, rest, then wake around 11:00pm for tea and snacks. Begin the midnight summit push via Stella Point. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise for unforgettable views. Descend to Barafu, then continue down to Mweka Camp for the night.

  Elevation: 3,100m → 1,640m
  Distance: ~10 km / 6.2 miles
  Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

  Final descent through lush forest to Mweka Gate. Collect your summit certificate, then drive back to Moshi for a hot shower, rest, and celebration dinner.
