Bumthang Cultural trek is practically easy three days trek that will lead you through abundant ancient temples and small hamlets. The route to Phephe La pass (3,600 m) is only the fragment of the trek that ascents 500 m, which could be challenging.
Spring or Autumn is the best time to embark on this trek.
Toktu Zampa to Ngang Lhakhang
Distance: 12 km
Time: 4-5 hr
ascent: 170 m
The route along the Chamkhar Chhu leads to a small village called Thangbi. After lunch, walk through the trail that leads to Ngang Yul (Land of Swan). Nagang Lhakhang (Swan Temple) is the main appeal of the region. The locals assumed that the region was occupied with Swans once upon a time, since then the place was called Ngang Yul.

Distance: 16 km
Time: 6 hr
ascent: 750 m
dsecent: 670 m
The trek crosses beautiful forest and magnificent view of the valley below and Phephe La (3,600 m), the highest point of the trek. After the pass, the trail leads you to the valley with promising campsites but the best site is behind the village after a little mount.
Tahung – Mesithang
Distance: 16 km
Time: 4-5 hr
descent: 230 m
The trail follows the Tang Chhu bypassing Mebar Tsho (Burning Lake) and continuing form the Lake leads to Tang valley. Ogyenchholing palace stands overlooking the valley and it is only museum owned by private in Bhutan contains Traditional artifacts. From here, you will head back to Bumthang by car through dirt road.
