The Himalayan Kingdom’s beauty is epitomized in its culture, flora, fauna and architecture, amongst others. Druk Path Trek, one of the most popular and easier treks, has a blend of all these ingredients as you trek from Paro to Thimphu. You will be trekking along a path that offers you great views of the highlands and landscape. The highlights of the trek are the beautiful lakes and Phajoding monastery. This package will also take you to the Himalayan Kingdom’s most revered sites, such as Paro Taktshang (Tiger’s Lair), the current and the ancient capitals of Bhutan, Thimphu and Punakha respectively, the World’s largest Buddha statue amongst others. On the other side, you can interact with the people and get to know Bhutanese life style.

Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival by Druk Air - Paro

    Arrival by Druk Air - Paro: During this flight one will enjoy the view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan Mountains including the sacred Mt. Jhomolhari& Mt. Jichu Drake in Bhutan. On arrival at Paro Airport a representative of Atlas Tour and Travel will receive you and drive you to the hotel to check in. After lunch, visit Ta Dzong former Watch Tower which now houses the National Museum and then visit Rinpung Dzong which houses the monastic school and the office of the civil administration and walk down passing close by crossing the Bhutanese typical wooden roofed bridge to Paro town. After a short stroll in town drive back to hotel for the night halt.

  • Day 2 : Paro- Excursion Taktsang

    Paro- Excursion Taktsang: After breakfast, drive for half an hour and start the hike, which is about 5 hours (round trip.) The trail is along an ancient path marked by river powered prayer wheels.
    As you reach Taktshang you will be struck by the architectural wonder of this most pious Buddhist shrine in Bhutan. Perched some 1000m, 3000ft on a cliff overlooking the valley, it would justifiably qualify as one of Bhutan’s wonders. Tragically wrecked in a fire early in 1998. It has been rebuilt to its original glory. It is said that the legendary Indian saint, Guru Padma Sambhava, flew from Tibet on the back of a tigress to tame five demons, who were opposing the spread of Buddhism in Bhutan in 746 A.D. Hence the name, Taktshang, or the “Tiger’s Lair.”
    Descend back to Ramthangka. If the time permits, drive further north to visit another symbolic structure, which is now in ruins. Drugyel Dzong, or “”Castle of the Victorious Drukpa,” which was also built by the Shabdrung to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over the Tibetans in the 16thcenturies.
    From here, the Jomolhari Peak (“Mountain of the Goddess”) can be seen on a clear day (Alt. 7,329m/24,029ft.). Overnight at hotel.

  • Day 3 : Paro -J ili Dzong

    Paro–Jili Dzong : Distance 7 km, four to five hours, 1,090m ascent, camp altitude 3,480m.
    Today is a short trekking day. The trek trail is rather gradual till you reach the camp for overnight stay. If the weather is clear you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful Paro valley and the snow-capped Mt. Jhomolhari behind the valley. You will Camp at Jili Dzong

  • Day 4 : Jili Dzong - Jangchulakha

    Jili Dzong – Jangchulakha: Distance 10 km, four to five hours, 310m ascent, 50m descent, camp altitude 3,770m).
    You begin with a gradual climb for about an hour and a half. The trail takes you through thick alpine forest and rhododendron trees. You may also see Yak herders around your campsite.

  • Day 5 : Jangchulakha - Jimilangtso

    Jangchulakha – Jimgelangtsho : (Distance 11 km, four hours, 230m descent, 330m ascent, camp altitude – 3,870m).
    The trail follows the ridge and on clear days the view of the mountains and valleys are spectacular. Your camp will be close to Lake Jimgelangtsho. These lakes are known for their giant sized trout

  • Day 6 : Jimilangtso - Simkotra

    Jimelangtsho – Simkotra: (Distance 11 km, four hours, 820m ascent, 400 m descent, camp altitude 4,110m).
    The trail takes you through dwarf Rhododendron trees and then you pass by the lakes of Janetso. Today you may come across some Yak herder’s camp and can have a look as to how these people live. The camp is close to Simkotra Lake.

  • Day 7 : Simkotra - Phajoding

    Simkotra – Phajoding : (Distance 10 km, three to four hours, 130m ascent, 680m descent, camp altitude 3,750m).
    Today you begin with a gradual climb and if weather permits you will have a beautiful view of Mount “GangkharPunsum” the highest mountain in Bhutan and other Himalayan mountains from the Dochula Pass. Then the path slowly descends till you reach Phajoding. You will camp for a night

  • Day 8 : Phajoding - Thimphu

    Phajoding – Thimphu: (Distance four to five km, 1,130 m descent).
    The trek to Thimphu is downhill all the way through a forested area of mostly blue pine trees. By taking leisurely pace you can reach Thimphu in about 3 hours for a hot shower and a nice lunch and can have good leisure time after lunch, overnight stay will be in the hotel.

  • Day 9 : Sightseeing in Thimphu

    Memorial Chorten: Built in the year 1974 in the memory of our third king of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.

    Buddha Point/ Kuensel Phodang: Is the largest Buddha statue in the country, from there you can get a good view of the Thimphu valley.

    Motithang Takin Preserve : Houses the rare national animal of Bhutan. Takin is listed by international conservation agencies as a vulnerable species and it is a rare animal found only in Bhutan, Nepal and Burma.
    Traditional Medicine Institute: In Bhutan, equal emphasis is given to both allopathic and traditional medicines. The rich herbal medicines made up from medicinal plants are prepared and dispensed here.
    National Institute for Zorig Chusum: Or the school of Arts and crafts is an institute where student undertake a six year course on the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan.
    Folk Heritage Museum: The house replicates a traditional farmhouse and is furnished as it would have been about a century ago. Overnight at hotel

  • Day 10 : Departure

    Departure : After breakfast, drive to Paro international airport for your onward flight. The representative of Atlas Tour and Travel will see off bid andfarewell
