Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival New Delhi International Airport

    You will be met from your flight to Delhi International Airport by Summit Safari’s representative, and he will accompany you to your hotel in New Delhi. Rest of the day free to rest after the flight

  • Day 2 : Half day of sightseeing of Delhi & further to Amritsar.

    Today after breakfast around 10:00 A.M we will check out from the hotel and first we will take you for the sightseeing tour of Delhi to view some of the famous sights of the town with a guide. We will take a walking tour of the Old Delhi covering the Chandani Chowk, historic Red Fort, and the busy market. If interested we will arrange for a bicycle rickshaw ride in old Delhi or a Tuk- Tuk ( Three wheeler ) ride in New Delhi for you. We will also visit Gandhi Smriti, also known as the Birla house where –Mahatma Gandhi had lived the last 144 days of his life from 09 September 1947 to 30 January 1948 when he was assassinated in 78th year of life at Birla House Prayer Grounds by Nathuram Godse . Thus, the house treasures many memories of his life. Lunch will be in a local restaurant in Delhi and after lunch you will be transferred to New Delhi railway station (4:30 P.M) to board the super fast Shatabdi express train to Amritsar ( 10:30 P.M). Evening tea / coffee and Dinner will be served to you on this super fast express train all included in the ticket price. You will reach Amritsar at night where you will be met by your driver and will be transfer to your hotel in Amritsar.

  • Day 3 : Amritsar (Sightseeing around Amritsar.)

    After breakfast at your hotel we will leave for sightseeing with your guide covering Golden Temple (the biggest and holiest Sikh shrine in the world – gilded with gold.),Jallianwala Bagh-the historic site where hundreds of innocent Indian men, women and children were massacred by British General Michael Dyer on April 13, 1919. A memorial and Garden have been created here as a national monument. Return back to your hotel by afternoon and after lunch ( 03:00 P.M) we will be driving you to Indo-Pak Border to watch retreat ceremony-30 KM on the road to Lahore is India-Pakistan Border (Wagha Boarder). A visit to the border is an interesting experience especially at Sunset, when the retreat ceremony takes place with the Border Security Force on the Indian Side and the Sutlej Rangers on the Pakistan side putting up a well coordinated and spectacular display. The sound from the Bugles blown together from both sides paints past on the canvas when India and Pakistan were one, simultaneously Flags of the two nations are ceremoniously retrieved and lights are switched on marking the end of the day. Return to hotel in the evening, second night in the same hotel at Amritsar.

  • Day 4 : Amritsar to Jawalamukhi – Village Home Stay. 6,10 metres / 2,000 feet ( 196 kms – 5 hrs)

    After breakfast we will leave for the Kangra valley home stay experience. Enroute we will stop for comfort breaks and a lunch break. In the late afternoon we will arrive in a small Himalayan village. From today we will spend around 2 nights with a local Indian family in Basil village in a local Indian house, with your hosts who are incredibly friendly and hospitable family who live in the Foothills Himalayas, which in itself is a very unique Indian experience. On arrival you will be offered with tea/ coffee, some snacks, you will get some time to fresh up yourself before we take you for a village walk. Overnight in a neat, clean and comfortable home stay.

  • Day 5 : Basdi to Bankhandi and back to the village home stay.

    Today after breakfast we will drive you to Bankhandi village where we will meet the different local communities and see how they do coir making, bamboo basket making, local musicians etc. We will have our lunch in the village with a local family and later on we will walk around this village which will provide us a chance to meet the local people and to know about their life and traditions. You will see and experience at first hand the way in which the villagers live. By evening we will leave this village and will drive you back to Basdi village. Second night in the same home stay in Basdi village.

  • Day 6 : Basdi village to Dharamshala / Mcleodganj . 2,082 metres / 6,831 feet. ( 60 kms)

    After breakfast, we will leave for Dharamshala. Enroute we will visit, the Norbulingka Institute at a place known as Sidhbari, an institute working for the preservation of traditional Tibetan arts and crafts. At present, it houses over 300 teachers, students and workers. The arts and crafts include Thanka painting, tailoring, metal sculpture and wood crafts. There is a Losel doll museum a monastery and a popular restaurant inside the Norbulingka institute where you can have your lunch. Further we will drive you to Mcleodganj – where his holiness the Dalai lama ji lives and Tibetian government in exile works. We take a walking tour to Dalai lama’s monastery and house, St.John church, situated in the wilderness and the local interesting street side market in Mcleodganj. Overnight stay in hotel at Mcleodganj.

  • Day 7 : Dharamshala to Kullu. 1,220 metres / 4,000 feet (200kms – 7 hrs)

    After breakfast we will drive you to Kullu. Enroute we will visit the tea gardens and tea processing factory and Palampur ,the famous Lord Shiva Hindu Temple at Baijnath Pandoh Dam Near Mandi. Reach Kullu by evening and check out in your hotel.

  • Day 8 : Kullu to Bijali Mahadev climb 2,460 metres / 8,071 feet and further drive to Manali.

    After breakfast we will drive you to Manali, On the way if interested we will hike up for the walk to Bijali Mahadev temple ( 3-4 hrs) from Kullu. The walk will help you to acclimatise properly before making your journey over the high mountain passes from Manali to Leh. It is a three kilometres trek from the village Chansari. The ancient and strange temple is set up in a beautiful meadow on the top of the hill with an ancient Lord Shiva Temple, famous for its Shiva –Lingam, where lighting strikes every year resulting Shiva -Lingam shatters into two pieces. Later on accordingly to the traditions it is repaired with butter by the villagers. This temple provides panoramic and commanding views of the Central Himalayas with the Kullu and Parbati valleys. Reach Manali by evening and check in at your hotel. Later on visit Old Manali village where you can have dinner in a local restaurant.

  • Day 9 : Manali (sightseeing around Manali.) 2,050 metres / 6,726 feet.

    After a leisurely breakfast we will visit Old Manali village, Hadimba Devi temple, Vashist village (with hot water springs) Naggar castle and famous Nicholas Roerich art gallery. Lunch will be in a restaurant in Manali. In the evening you are free to explore the Manali market and shops including the village of Old Manali.

  • Day 10 : Manali to Jispa 3,200 metres / 10,500 feet (138 kms / 7 hrs)

    Today after breakfast we will make a early start and on the way cross the Rohtang pass (3,980 meters/ 13,ooo feet) meaning Pass Of Corpses. We entered into the Lahaul valley as soon as we cross the Rohtang pass. Lunch will be in a local eating place at Khoksar and further we continue our drive to Jispa through Tandi and Keylong. We will arrive Jispa by late afternoon, which itself is a very tiny the night at the tiny settlement with a couple of local houses, hotels and camps. Jispa sits at the foot of the mighty 16,000-foot Baralacha Pass at an altitude of some 10,500 feet – again providing valuable acclimatisation time before heading really high on the Manali Leh Road.

  • Day 11 : Jispa to Tsokor Lake. 4595 metres / 15075 feet ( 225 kms – 9 hrs)

    After breakfast we will leave for Tsokor lake through Baralacha Pass (4,830 metres), Sarchu, Naki La Pass (4,740 metres/ 15,551 feet), Lachungla Pass (5,019 metres/ 16, 467 feet) and pang .The views are stunning here. As you are driving into the high lands of central Himalayas you enjoy the dramatic ever changing backgrounds of the mountains. Today there are chances to see the Snow ibex and the herds of wild Himalayan blue sheep in between Sarchu to Pang. Lunch will be taken at the small eating places with fresh food at village of Pang, before we ride through the vast More Plains. After around an hour’s driving we will leave the Manali Leh road at the end of More Plains and will take right turn into another valley to reach Tso Kor lake – a deep blue salt lake up at 13,780 feet, set against the spectacular Himalayan setting . Here we will stay overnight in a fixed tented accommodation, where local agents put up a tented colony for the convenience of the tourists during summer season.

  • Day 12 : Tsokor Lake to Leh. 3,524 metres / 11,562 feet ( 150 kms – 5/6 hrs)

    After breakfast we will take a short walk to Tsokor lake and later we will head drive back to meet the Manali Leh road again, where we leave it yesterday. We Continue driving to Tanglang La pass (5280 Mts.) the second highest Motorable pass in the world that commands breath taking views of the Zanskar range and the upper Indus valley. We stop on the way in the local eating places to sip a cup of tea and while following the Indus river and the spectular mountains views with green fields and purple mountains, sandy landscape we arrive in Leh – the capital of Ladakh valley, by late afternoon. Overnight stay in Hotel in Leh.

  • Day 13 : Local Leh

    Today after breakfast around (10:00 A.M) we will leave for a easy , half day sightseeing tour with local guide including, a visit to the Thiksey Monastery, stok palace and village. We will be back to Leh by late afternoon and in the evening visit Shanti Stupa and Leh fort, rest of the time free to walk around the local market of Leh. Second night in same hotel in Leh.

  • Day 14 : Leh to Pangong Lake 4,250 metres/ 13,940 ft (160 kms 5 hrs)

    Today after breakfast we will drive you to Pangong Lake .The drive over Chang La pass (17,500 feet) will take us in the most remote of regions of Ladakh valley to Pangong Lake. Pangong Lake is the largest lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 metres (14,300 ft). It is 134 km long and extends from India to China (Chinese occupied Tibet) 60% of the length of the lake lies in China. The lake is 5 km wide at its broadest point. We will stay overnight stay at Spangmik village in the fixed tented accommodation in a seasonal camp. Spangmik, the farthest point to which foreigners are permitted, it affords spectacular views of the mountains of the Chang chemo range to the North, their reflections shimmering in the ever-changing blues and greens of the lake’s brackish waters. Evening free to walk around the lake, overnight in fixed tented accommodation in near the Pangong Lake.

  • Day 15 : Pangong Lake to Leh back (160 kms 5 hrs)

    Toda after breakfast we will return back to Leh driving through the same route. This morning there are chances to see the marmots, which come out of their holes during the early morning hrs to have sun. Enroute we will also stop in the camps of Nomadic people where they are busy grazing their yaks, we might have a cup of tea with the nomadic people. Evening free to explore Leh market, overnight in a hotel in Leh.

  • Day 16 : Leh to Deskit – Hunder (Nubra valley, 120 kms -5 hrs)

    After breakfast we will drive you to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass (Highest Motorable road in the World, 18,380 feet). Today we follow the Ancient Silk Route in Nubra valley”. Arrive at Deskit and visit the monastery at Deskit. Later on after lunch continue your drive to Hunder village. Evening is free to explore the Hunder Village where you can visit the sand dunes and enjoy the, Bactrian camel ride in Sand Dunes. Overnight in Hotel in Deskit.

  • Day 17 : Hunder to Leh back.

    After Breakfast we will visit the local houses and later we will drive you back to Leh town over the Khardung La pass and will reach Leh by late afternoon. Rest of the day free at leisure. Overnight in hotel at Leh.

  • Day 18 : Local Leh.

    Today you have a day at leisure. Free day to explore Leh by foot, or to visit the local market for your final shopping of Buddhist art, craft, carpets , silver jewelry etc. You can have lunch in the local restaurant where you can enjoy the choice of some Tibetan food. Second night in the same hotel in Leh.

  • Day 19 : Fly from Leh to Delhi.

    After breakfast, in the morning we will assist you to Leh airport to board the flight back to New Delhi. After your arrival at New Delhi airport you will be met & assisted by Summit Safari’s representative, and he will accompany you to your hotel. Check in at your hotel and have time to fresh up yourself, later on you may wish to go to visit the Connaught place market where you notice typical Georgian buildings and market centers. This place is named after Duke of Connaught. Return back to your hotel in evening.

  • Day 20 : Fly back to your country.

    Today after breakfast at your hotel, you will be assisted and will be transfer to the international airport at New Delhi to board your return flight.

    This is where the tour ends. However, if you wish to stay longer in Delhi or want to take extension tour, we can make arrangements for you to be transferred to the airport at a later time
