Hampta Pass Trek - Valley Of Contrasts 5 Days Tour

The tour begins with a scenic drive to the road-head at Jobra. The trek starts with an easy walk through dense forests of oak and pine, followed by a section through a valley floor with small streams. The first campsite is set up in the beautiful meadow of Chika, situated right next to the Rani Nallah stream.

The trail gradually gains altitude, offering continuous views of the Dhauladhar Range. You cross several streams and walk past a stunning area called Jwara, known for its wildflowers (in summer). Balu ka Ghera (Bears' Den) is the final, open campsite before the pass, situated at the foot of the snow line, and is ideal for acclimatization.

This is the longest and most challenging day. Start early with a steady climb to the Hampta Pass. From the summit, you get a dramatic view of the barren, cold desert landscape of Lahaul. The descent is steep and technical, leading down to the beautiful, riverside campsite of Shea Goru, marking the full crossover.

An easy downhill walk through the Lahaul valley, following the Chandra River. The landscape is distinctively arid and rocky. Reach Chatru, the road-head on the Manali-Leh Highway. Optionally, take a short drive to the mesmerizing Chandratal Lake (Moon Lake) for an overnight camp by its banks (highly recommended, but weather-dependent).

If staying at Chatru, the morning drive to Manali is direct. If returning from Chandratal, the drive is longer and more scenic. The journey takes you over the famous Rohtang Pass (or through the Atal Tunnel), providing a final spectacular contrast as you move from the barren mountains back to the lush, green Kullu Valley, concluding the trek.
