After refreshing yourself leave from the hotel and place your visit Daksum is blessed by nature. The valley is perfect for picnics. Once you are here you are mesmerized by the melody of Bringhi River flowing through it. The scenic beauty enjoys rolling hills, gurgling streams, traditional villages and natural springs. The attraction is its ethereal location.
Kashmir stood up to its reputation of being breathtakingly beautiful and I was looking forward to Daksum. Touted as one of Kashmir‘s offbeat still undiscovered jewels, Daksum is a trekker‘s and nature lovers’ paradise. Located at 2,438 meters above sea level, it is 40 kilometers southeast of Anantnag and many offbeat travellers visit it on day trips from Kokkernag or Verinag. Surrounded by the snow-clad Pir Panjal range, lush coniferous forests, grassy meadows, gurgling brooks, and clusters of Gurjar (nomadic shepherd) hutments, River Bringhi gushes through it. The mountain river carries an enviable amount of Daksum‘s famous trout and this virginal spot is more lively in summer. On that spring day, however, the tiny village was hardly inhabited. The one and only tourist accommodation facility, run by Jammu and Kashmir Govt, was undergoing construction work at the time of my visit and electricity was playing truant. After post sightseeing visit Kokernag is another beautiful and attractive tourist destination in Kashmir. It is located in Anantnag district, at a distance of about 70 km from Srinagar. The place has splendid natural beauty which is serene and calm. The place is blessed with some gorgeous natural beauty. Various rare varieties of plants and flowers are found here.
Kokernag has various interesting legends attached to it regarding its name. It got its name comprises of two words ‘koker’ meaning ‘chicken’ and ‘nag’ meaning ‘serpent’. ‘Nag’ also means a sulphurous water spring in Kashmiri. According to the legend, it was a saint who came to the place with a bucket. He slept and kept his bucket nearby. After sometime some women came in search of water, but could not find any. They saw the sleeping saint and the bucket and decided to take water from the bucket. However, as soon as they went near, a serpent came out of the bucket, escaped and crept in the ground. Soon it emerged in the form of a chicken. The chicken began to dig the soil with its claw and water came gushing out of it. This originated the spring and was named Kokernag. It is also believed that the spring is called kokernag, because of it originates from a claw shaped origin in the earth and moves ahead like a serpent. It is also said that since the collection of various springs forms the shape of a chicken claw, that is why it is called kokernag. Otherwise the real name of the place is Bindoo Zalangam.
Kokernag is a beautiful place with splendid scenic spot; the favourite being the garden that surrounds the spring. Waterfall is a beautiful attraction for the tourists. However, the most important tourist attraction is the Papa-shudan Nag, the sulphurous spring believed to possess magical powers of healing. The water is known for its digestive properties and other medical importance. Also visit Achbal Achabal Garden is one of the most important and splendid tourist places in the state of Kashmir and is about 8 kilometers away from Anantnag. It was in the state of Kashmir that the Mughal style gardens was brought to perfection and Achabal is one such masterpiece. This place is famous all over due to an ancient spring surrounded by a terrace garden, which was developed by Mughals. The historical significance of this place strikes the visitor with awe. Achabal Garden, once the pleasure retreat of the Mughal Empress Noor Jahan is a beautifully created garden in Kashmir with its own special allure and character.
Its picturesque beauty makes it one of the best Mughal Gardens of the Indian subcontinent. It is difficult to describe in words the mesmerizing beauty of this Mughal style garden. The upper portion of the garden is popularly known as `Bag-e-Begum Abad` and was developed by Malika Noor Jehan Begum in 1620 A.D. Later it became renowned as Sahib Abad in which there was a `Hamam` or treasure of water getting heat from a logical lamp or `tosng`. The garden was created at the site of a powerful spring, which enters the garden as a waterfall. The design of this wonderfully created garden is ascribed to the beloved wife of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir.
The Garden of Achabal is located at the foot of a hill covered with dense forest, which is 8 kilometers from Anantnag and 56 kilometers from Srinagar. The daughter of the Mughal monarch Shah Jahan built the garden in the year 1620 with cascading outpourings and pavilions. The most beautiful of all springs is Achabal and it gushes out of the Sosanwar Hill. In the garden of Achabal the water gushes out of the spasm with great vigor throughout the entire year. In the later ages the Mughal prince Dara Shikoh built a mosque in the garden. There is also a trout farm for seed fish nearby. There are tourist bungalows and tourist huts nearby where the tourists can spend some moments in the lap of the beautiful setup. This garden is universally regarded as a visual treat for the eyes.
This garden is also well adorned with sprawling Chinar trees. Stepped terraces, ornamental shrubs and conventional elegance, are the added attraction, which not only mesmerizes one but also attracts thousands of tourists from all over the globe every year. Accommodation is available at the nearby tourist bungalows or rest houses. Achabal not only serves as a breathtaking splendor but also is a reviving experience for all tourists. Achabal Gardens, "the places of the princes", is a small Mughal garden located at the southeastern end of the Kashmir Valley in the town of Achabal, Anantnag district, India. Located near the Himalayan Mountains, the site may have been a Hindu sacred site known as "Akkshavala" previously. After post sightseeing return back to Srinagar overnight in hotel.
