The 6 days Marangu route is a better option for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro using the popular Marangu route. It includes an additional day for acclimatization compared to the shorter 5 days variation and is ideal for climbers who do not like camping in tents. The Marangu route is the pioneer of Kilimanjaro climbing and is one of the oldest routes on Kilimanjaro. It is known by other names such as Coca-Cola Trail or Tourist Trail because many tourists choose this route to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It is one of the easiest, shortest and most popular routes, used by approximately 40% of all Kilimanjaro climbers. Stops on this route include accommodations at Mandara, Horombo and Kibo huts.
Trek from Marangu Gate (1860m) to Mandara Hut (2700m). This stage ascends from the entrance gate up to Mandara Hut reaching 2700m elevation and is one of the initial stages on the Marangu route with accommodation at Mandara Hut.
Trek from Mandara Hut (2700m) to Horombo Hut (3700m). This stage gains elevation to Horombo Hut at 3700m and is a key acclimatization day on the Marangu route with accommodation at Horombo Hut.
Trek from Horombo Hut (3700m) to Kibo Hut (4700m). This uphill stage continues the ascent toward the summit zone, reaching Kibo Hut at approximately 4700m where climbers prepare for the summit attempt.
Ascend from Kibo Hut (4700m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) and descend back to Horombo Hut (3700m). This is the summit day reaching Uhuru Peak at 5895m followed by a descent back down to Horombo Hut for recovery and overnight rest.
Descend from Horombo Hut (3700m) down to Marangu Gate (1860m). This final stage completes the Marangu descent to the exit gate at the foot of the mountain and concludes the trek.
