Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Manali to Jispa (138 Kms)

  Well begun, they say is half done! And surely this is a good beginning as just out of Manali you start the spectacular 52 Km journey to Rohtang Pass. At an altitude of 13,051 Kms, being here is literally like feeling on top of the world! Post Rohtang Pass the descent to Chandra Valley begins through Khoksar and then onto Tandi. Pro Tip- This is the place to tank up on fuel as Tandi has the only petrol pump on the route! Another 35 Kms drive from Tandi will bring you to your night halt at Jispa, a place known for its lush greenery, picturesque valleys, streams and scenic peaks. You could pamper yourself at a luxury hotel here as you have a long journey ahead the next morning.

• Day 2 : Jispa to Sarchu (113 Kms)

  This part of the journey is challenging what with bad roads and water crossings…..but also the most spectacular views. The high point of this journey is crossing Baralacha La at an imposing height of 16500 feet. After the descent from Baralacha La you arrive at the plains of Sarchu for another surreal experience of living in tents and camping under the stars.

• Day 3 : Sarchu to Tso Kar Lake (140 Kms)

  This really is a journey you will not forget in a hurry! You will cross some of the most spectacular sights as you first approach the Gata Loops- a succession of 21 hair pin bends. The place is also known for a ghost story that ensures most people do not stop at the Gata Loops more than necessary. We are sure you will hear about it once you get there. This route will also take you through the Lachlung-La and Nakee- La passes. Another natural spectacle that you will pass, are the Moore Plains, a 42 Kms extension of the Changthang Plateau. The stark plains with nothing but the flanking mountains at a distance leave you stupefied. In midst of this raw beauty, runs a tar road on which you leave a trail of dust behind as you accelerate. The Moore Plains lead you to Tso Kar, which has both fresh water and a brackish lake. You are likely to spot a wild life at Tso Kar- Kiangs, Wild Horses and Marmots. You would be lucky though if any of them choose to pose for your camera! Camp out in the night as the next morning leads you to yet another interesting destination!

• Day 4 : Tso Kar to Tso Moriri Lake (87 km)

  This stretch is clearly a traveler’s dream as you cross three pristine lakes and two high altitude passes- Namshang La at 16500 feet and Pologonka La at 16300 feet to reach Tso Moriri, a wetland sanctuary and a protected zone. At Tso Moriri you experience nature’s pristine beauty- snow capped peaks, lush green fields and the deep blue water stretching to the horizon. Our guess is that you will simply stand there awestruck at the sight. You can pitch your tent just before Korzok village or find an accommodation in Korzok village. Either way you will have a clear view of the magnificent high altitude lake – Tso Moriri.

• Day 5 : Tso Moriri to Leh (240 Kms)

  This is a journey along the majestic Indus River to Leh. However before you does that, remember to take a stop at Korzok Village, the home of the Changpa Nomads. Their yak milk tea is worth savo

• Day 6 : Leh to manali (departure)

  While in Leh of course you aren’t short of things to do. From the majestic Nubra Valley to the Thiksey Monastery for the spiritually inclined, the place is a veritable storehouse of beauty. After this you will move to Manali.
