A classic and comfortable route to Africa’s highest peak.
The Marangu Route, often referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route”, is one of the most popular trekking routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. This is the only route offering accommodation in mountain huts with solar power and bunk beds. It has a gentler gradient compared to other routes, making it suitable for first time trekkers — though altitude acclimatization remains essential.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 Marangu Gate (1,860m) → Mandara Hut (2,720m)

Hiking Time: 4–5 Hours | Habitat: Rainforest
Begin with registration at Marangu Gate followed by a scenic trek through lush rainforest. Look out for Blue Monkeys, Black-and-White Colobus Monkeys, and diverse plant life.

Day 2 Mandara Hut → Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Hiking Time: 5–6 Hours | Habitat: Heath/Moorland
The trail gradually opens into moorland with impressive views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.

Day 3 Acclimatization Day At Horombo Hut

Activity: Short hike to Zebra Rocks (3,980m)
A valuable acclimatization day to help the body adjust to altitude. Enjoy a relaxing day with a short hike to the scenic Zebra Rocks and return to Horombo for the night.

Day 4 Horombo Hut → Kibo Hut (4,703m)

Hiking Time: 5–7 Hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
Trek across the saddle area that separates Mawenzi and Kibo. Early dinner and rest in preparation for the summit.

Day 5 Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Horombo Hut

Hiking Time: 10–14 Hours | Habitat: Arctic Summit
Begin the summit push just after midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Horombo Hut for overnight.

Day 6 Horombo Hut → Marangu Gate → Hotel

Hiking Time: 5–7 Hours
Final descent through the rainforest. Receive summit certificates at the gate and transfer to hotel.

Booking and Reservations
A booking with Roots of Africa Kilimanjaro Expedition is confirmed once a deposit has been received and a written confirmation has been sent to the client. By confirming a booking, the client agrees to these Terms and Conditions.
Changes to Itinerary
While every effort is made to follow the planned itinerary, Roots of Africa Kilimanjaro Expedition reserves the right to make changes due to:
Weather conditions
Safety concerns
National park regulations
Unforeseen circumstances
Any changes will be made with the safety and comfort of clients as the top priority.
Travel Insurance
All clients are strongly advised to obtain comprehensive travel insurance that covers:
Trip cancellation
Medical expenses
Emergency evacuation
High altitude trekking such as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro
Health and Fitness
Clients participating in mountain trekking must be in good physical condition. It is the responsibility of the client to ensure they are medically fit for activities such as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Responsibility and Liability
Roots of Africa Kilimanjaro Expedition acts only as a tour operator and shall not be held responsible for: ∙ Personal injury or illness
Loss or damage of personal belongings
Delays caused by weather, road conditions, or airline schedules
Any events beyond our control
Client Conduct
Clients are expected to respect local cultures, wildlife, and environmental regulations while visiting national parks and communities in Tanzania.
Passport, Visa, and Travel Documents
All travelers must have valid travel documents including passports and visas required for entry into Tanzania. It is the client’s responsibility to ensure these documents are valid before travel.
Acceptance of Terms
By booking a tour with Roots of Africa Kilimanjaro Expedition, the client acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.

Terms & Conditions

Payment Terms & Methods :

A deposit (usually 30% of the total trip cost) is required to secure your booking. The remaining balance must be paid before the tour begins or upon arrival in Moshi unless otherwise agreed.
Payments may be made through:
Bank transfer
Online transfer
Cash payment upon arrival

Cancellation & Refund Policy :

If a client cancels their trip, the following cancellation fees may apply:
More than 30 days before the trip – deposit refundable (minus bank charges)
15–30 days before the trip – 50% cancellation fee
Less than 15 days before the trip – 100% cancellation fee
