Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrive in Leh (3500m)

  Arrive in Leh (3500m) and rest completely for acclimatization. Due to the high altitude of Leh, strict rest is mandatory to prevent acute mountain sickness (AMS). Spend the day taking light strolls around the Leh market for cultural immersion, ensuring you stay hydrated with plenty of water and local tea, while resisting the urge for strenuous activity.

• Day 2 : Drive to Spituk and trek to Zingchen (approx. 4 hours).

  Begin the trek from the ancient Spituk Monastery, following the Indus River bank before turning into a narrow gorge that leads to the Hemis National Park boundary. Zingchen is your first official campsite, located in a quiet, secluded valley, offering a perfect start to the remote Markha Valley journey.

• Day 3 : Trek from Zingchen to Ganda La Base Camp (approx. 6-7 hours).

  The trail leads through the Rumbak village, known for its traditional Ladakhi homes and opportunities to spot high-altitude wildlife like the elusive snow leopard. The ascent is steady until you reach the Ganda La Base camp, a secluded spot where you will camp overnight, preparing for the high pass crossing tomorrow.

• Day 4 : Cross Ganda La Pass (4961m) and trek to Skiu (approx. 8 hours).

  Today involves an early start for the first major pass crossing, rewarding you with panoramic views of the Zanskar and Ladakh ranges. The descent is long and steep into the beautiful Markha Valley, ending at Skiu, a picturesque village situated at the confluence of the Markha and Lhato rivers, providing a warm homestay experience.

• Day 5 : Trek from Skiu to Markha Village (approx. 7 hours).

  Enjoy a pleasant walk mostly alongside the Markha River, crossing it several times using wooden bridges or wading through the shallow parts. The trail passes through small, quaint villages and ruins, offering insight into the remote life of the Ladakhi people, before settling into a comfortable homestay in the largest village of the valley, Markha.

• Day 6 : Trek from Markha to Hankar (approx. 4 hours)

  Trek from Markha to Hankar (approx. 4 hours) and explore the nearby Thachungtse campsite. This is a relatively easy day, featuring a gentle ascent and the chance to view the majestic Kang Yatse II peak. The trail leads past the historic Markha Fort ruins and a charming old monastery. Hankar offers beautiful views and serves as a crucial staging point before the final major climb.

• Day 7 : Trek from Hankar to Nimaling (approx. 6 hours).

  The trail ascends steadily to the high-altitude pasture of Nimaling, where the Markha Valley widens, presenting a spectacular view of the massive Kang Yatse peak, dominating the entire landscape. This cold, expansive meadow is the highest campsite of the trek, requiring warm clothing for a comfortable overnight stay at 4800m.

• Day 8 : Cross Kongmaru La Pass (5260m) and descend to Shang Sumdo, then drive to Leh (approx. 9-10 hours).

  The final day begins with a challenging ascent to the highest pass, offering magnificent views of the Karakoram Range. The descent is steep and long, leading to the remote village of Shang Sumdo, where a vehicle awaits to drive you back to Leh, concluding the memorable high-desert trek.
