Kareri Lake Trek is located at an elevation of about 2,950 meters in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. It is a perfect weekend getaway if you want to switch off from your monotonous routine and get close to nature.Surrounded by mountains and alpine trees, the Kareri Lake Trek is formed by the flow of the water bodies from by the Minkiani peak. The trek to Kareri Lake Trek is one of the most scenic alpine treks in Himachal Pradesh that goes to several gushing streams and passes through green meadows. You will come across artistic shepherd villages that have a charm of their own. Other attractions are the Lord Shiva temple which is worth a visit. The trail to Kareri Lake Trek will definitely interest you if you're interested in bird watching as there are various species of birds to look out for. So be ready with your cameras for that perfect capture. The forests here are a mix of pines and shrubs which act as a perfect hiding for some exclusive birds.The next half of the trail is a rocky grassland along with Nyund nallah. You will be facing a huge variety of terrains on this trek, ranging from straight roads to river crossings over wooden bridges, and steep ascents. After arriving at the lake, spend some time clicking pictures there, before spending another amazing night in tents at the lake.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1

Mcelodganj To Kareri Village

Kareri is a village situated at the height of 2200 meter.distance of kareri village from mcelodganj to kareri is 13 km. we can go by taxi till to satobari village which is 3 km away from mcelodganj. After reaching at satobari we can start the trek. From satobari village total distance of kareri village is 9km.after reaching at ghera half way of kareri we will have lunch. Ghera is a small and market of kareri village.after having lunch we will moov toward kareri. The trek is goes through the pine forests and crossed several tribal villageon the way. At kareri there is a very good camping place near the river side or we can stay in the local house.

Day 2

Kareri Village To Kareri Lake

The total distance of the trek is 14km. kareri lake is situated at the altitude of 3500meter. Trail goes through mixed forests of oak rhododendron and pine. First 2km is a level walk and then there is sleep ascent among kareri nallah stream which has to be crossed over a number of times improvised wooden bridges. Overnight stay in tent at bank of kareri lake. Kareri lake is also the base camp of minkiani pass.

Day 3

Kareri Lake To Mcelodganj

Dharamshala

On day four we will come back to mcelodganj.we have another option we can go directly to dharamshala from ghera there are the direct buses from ghera to dharamshala .it will take one and half hour by bus to reach at dharamshala. From Kareri to Ghera it will take two hour .
