The freedom fighters lodged here were from all over India. Several of such prisoners, spent more than 20 years of their lives in solitary confinements as they were cursed to live in individual cells located in this prison. The building was subsequently damaged and presently three out seven prongs are intact. The jail, now place of pilgrimage for all freedom loving people, has been declared as a National Memorial.

Baratang Island is located at about 100 Km off the Capital city of Port Blair on the NH 223 (known as Andaman Trunk Road) Lime Stone Cave: The lime caves, full of splendid stalagmites, stalactites and pillar rocks, can be accessed by a 40-minute boat ride through the creeks.
