After breakfast, depart by surface transport for Mandawa, a small and busy market town that came into being in the 18th Century, and was subsequently fortified by merchant families. Today, it has some of the finest painted havelis (traditional mansions) in the region.
Drive to Bikaner and check in at your hotel. Once a busy trade centre, Bikaner was frequented by the legendary caravans that strung out across the desert to West Asia and Africa. The afternoon half-day tour will take you around this fortified city perched above the rocky desert from where you will see camels and temples, and witness a rich mixture of local music, dance, art and wildlife.
