Visit homes, cafés, and other venues of the Munich Boheme, where the subversive streak resurfaced in the sixties in the form of wild communes and hippie communities. Munich at the turn of the century, before World War I, attracted writers, painters, performers and intellectuals, like no other place in Germany. Schwabing and also the Maxvorstadt became the meeting point for aspiring artists like Thomas Mann, Frank Wedekind, Rainer Maria Rilke, Wassily Kandinsky, Erich Mühsam, and independent women like Franziska von Rewentlow. Your guide shows you homes, cafés, and other venues of the Munich Boheme, put it all in perspective and point out how this subversive streak resurfaced, after the shameful period of the Nazi era, once again in the sixties in the form of wild communes and hippie communities.
