Tribes of Assam

Being connected to many countries and states through land, Assam was chosen by the people of many civilizations for their settlement. The major races who migrated to this land were the Aryans, the Dravidians, the Tibeto Burmese, the Alpines and the Negritos. By adopting the culture of the land, these people too came to be called as Assamese. However, a considerably prominent portion of the population is occupied by the Bodo and the Mishing tribes originating from the Tibeto-Burmese people. Agriculture and handicrafts are the potential sources of livelihood. Each tribe is known for its specific handicraft. While some are renowned for their mastery in handloom, some are known for their unmatched skill in the sphere of pottery. The place of origin too has drawn lines between the languages spoken by these tribes.
