Colonel Bailey's Dungeon

Colonel Bailey’s Dungeon is one of the famous tourist destinations in Karnataka. It is a historical dungeon that bears the name of Colonel Bailey who breathed his last at this place. This dungeon is located on the ground level where the war prisoners and criminals were chained to death. C.B Dungeon is extremely dark and morbid with a passage of water that made it worse for criminals that were tied there.

Why Is It Famous?
Colonel Bailey’s Dungeon is famous because Colonel Braithwaite, Captain Rulay, Baird, Frazer, Lindsay, and Samson were imprisoned by Tipu Sultan inside this dungeon. They were tied on the slabs with their hands chained to the hooks on the wall. It also had the waist-high cold water to make the situation unbearable.

Tipu used this gruesome way to put the British officials to death in order to teach the British powers a lesson to stay away from him. It is well-maintained by the authorities from indoors and painted beautifully to protect it from seepage.

If you’re looking out for some blingy things then you might be disappointed because the dungeon is dull despite being painted. Still, its walls, hook structures, and slabs have a lot of tales about the cruelty faced by the criminals and some British officials.
